“This Ain’t No Tea Party”

by lewwaters

From Accuracy In Media, reported on Fox News

“On March 20, there was an anti-war demonstration in Lafayette Square Park, across the street from the White House. AIM went there to see what sort of activity was occurring, and as we show in this video, which was all shot at the scene of the demonstration, it was a mix of 9/11 Truthers, Code Pinkers, socialists, anarchists, and a large contingency of pro-Hamas, anti-Israel zealots.”

Where was the media coverage and outcry as there is over Tea Parties?

  1. I am a lifelong washington state resident (born in seattle) I remember when there was a tax on grocery store food. The courts then ruled grocery store food tax is illegal and violates washington state constitution. The grocery store tax was then reinstated pending appeal. The appeal upheld the ruling that grocery store food tax was illegal and grocery store food tax came off. I believe this was in the 1970s.

We now have the state legislature “deeming” certain food items as “unnecessary” (candy) so they placed the tax back on those items. Next they will “deem” other food items such as sugar, doughnuts, and pizza as “unnecessary” Just because they want to raise taxes does not mean they can go against what the courts have already ruled (and upheld) by deeming certain items “unnecessary”. There is also an issue of some items whether they will be taxed under this illegal scheme: Would caramel apples and chocolate strawberries be taxed? if so, then why won’t chocolate / candy dipped ice cream be taxed? This economy some companies cannot even make payroll and the state legislature thinks giving them a “tax break” will help??? They are doing and end run around washington state law and think they can get away with it.

Taxing bottled water is a bottle tax. If you take your own bottles into safeway, you can refill the bottles and pay for the water – there is no way no how the state can charge a sales tax on the property (bottles) you already own. Also water is a necessity and should not be taxed like this – based on the sales tax rulings the courts have made in the past (see above)

Taxing SOME beer and SOME soda pop and not others based on the success of a business is socialism. Bigger businesses should be given tax breaks, not penalized, for having more employees and bringing more money into the community. This part of the law is entirely unfair and unethical.

I am also upset the state legislature thinks it can go behind a court ruling and reverses the court ruling that extended tax breaks to out-of-state direct sales companies. They, once again, are interfering with the judicial branch of government and doing end runs around the law.

Something else extremely offensive, and should be illegal, is the state legislature went behind the voters backs and overturned the requirement for 2/3 majority to pass any tax increases. It blows my mind they can suspend something the voters passed just by taking a vote to suspend it. What good are referendums and voting if the legislature can suspend any of them they want to? The people voted for a 2/3 requirement and they did not want the legislature to overturn it just because they didn’t like it. Why even bother to get a referendum on the ballot if the legislature will suspend or invalidate it if they don’t like it??? It makes me believe the people have absolutely no say in the state.

The entire tax package passed by the state legislature goes against the washington state constitution, is entirely illegal, goes against the will of the people, tramples the judicial branch of state government, and should not be allowed to go in effect.

I feel my vote does not count and is worthless when the state legislature can suspend the will of the voters whenever they want just by voting on it. Somebody needs to enforce washington state law and stop the legislature from over stepping their branch of the government.

What can I do and who should I contact to stop this illegal budget going into affect? Also, governor gregoire needs to be recalled. She was the top attorney in the state so she should know how illegal this budget is – and she doesn’t care and she said she will sign it. Don’t the legislature and governor take an oath to uphold the constitution of the state of washington (as well as the united states constitution) ? If so, they are violating their oaths and all of them need to be impeached / recalled or whatever can be done in the state of washington.

If the state of washington / city of seattle listened to the voters the under capacity viaduct replacement tunnel would not be built and the viaduct would be rebuilt – saving enough money to balance the budget with no new taxes. But the legislature and governor would rather over spend and place illegal taxes on the people.

I am extremely angry with the state legislature and the governor.
