Is Jaime Herrera Pregnant?

by lewwaters

After being married for a year and half, congressperson elect Jaime Herrera suddenly issued a press release yesterday, December 22, 2010 announcing that from now on, she is to be referred to as ‘Jaime Herrera Beutler’ (pronounced Butler), indicating she has decided to take her husband’s name.

Seattle Times: Jaime Herrera takes husband’s name, belatedly

Speculation on the why of the sudden announcement is, naturally, all over the board. But one that no one seems to have mentioned nor entered my own mind, is if she is pregnant. I mention it now due to an email I just received from a Republican PCO that said,

“re Jaimie…do not be too hard on her just now. Maybe I am dead wrong, BUT, photos, her appearance at our PCO meeting and her change of name may or may not point to a possible pregnancy. I am sure she would want her son or daughter to have her husband’s name etc.”

Funny thing about this, I thought that a woman becoming pregnant had little or not bearing on their abilities to perform in their jobs? Isn’t that what we have been hearing for years now? The old fashioned notion of a pregnant woman taking it easy and not working was done away with years ago, I thought?

And, take it easy on her? She hasn’t done anything yet, hasn’t even been sworn into office. That doesn’t occur until January.

But, if she is pregnant, does that preclude an elected official from scrutiny or public disagreement?

Since I resigned my PCO position, I wasn’t at the last PCO meeting and didn’t see her “appearance.”

I have no idea whether or not she is nor does it really make much of a difference to me.

But, if she is, aren’t constituents entitled to know?

If so and when she gives birth, will she take advantage of the 3 month family leave policy and leave the 3rd Congressional District with no representation for a short period?

Or, would she follow the example of Sarah Palin and take the baby with her to the office and balance motherly duties with representing the 3rd Congressional District?

An interesting thought, but it does not preclude her from scrutiny or criticism.

  1. Hey Lou,

Just Wondering if Doug Erickson or Shannon Barnett should get paternity tests?

  2. Sure, why not? Do they look pregnant?

  3. Parental testing is the use of genetic fingerprinting to determine whether two individuals have a biological parent-child relationship. A paternity test establishes genetic proof whether a man is the biological father of an individual……………………….

  4. I know what a paternity test is.

Why don’t you just get to your point?
