GVCC’s Kelly Parker Attempting An End Run Around Voters

by lewwaters

Light Rail HellOnce again we witness efforts by the few in Southwest Washington to circumvent voters, ignore our votes and lobby funds the state does not have to forcibly ram Portland’s financially beleaguered light rail on us and into our community.

It is Kelly Parker, President/CEO Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce who has sent out an email soliciting signatures from selected business owners with the Greater Vancouver area to show support for the Columbia River Crossing Project and light rail, even though voters have clearly said we do not want it in proxy votes, such as the recent defeat of C-TRAN’s Proposition 1 to fund operations & maintenance by a sales tax increase.

Parker’s email bypassed numerous businesses, such as Acuity Group PLLC, a Forensic Accounting Firm in Vancouver hired to independently audit CRC’s books and that was met with foot dragging, a huge document dump, usually designed to confuse and overwhelm, lack of cooperation and even a lawsuit from a contractor to inhibit access to some documents that might show where some $160 Million of our tax dollars has gone, seemingly targeted to those few who may profit from the project or who would merely pass along any expense to taxpayers, already bearing the brunt of the multi-Billion expense.

The Petition That Refuses To Die

by lewwaters

PetitionExtending Portland, Oregon’s financially beleaguered light rail line into Vancouver and Clark County Washington has been and remains a very contentious matter. Even though every single vote perceived to provide funding for part of the project has been easily defeated at the ballot box, even within the confines of a gerrymandered sub-district thought to give the project an edge for approval, voters have not been given a vote on the project itself and proponents forge ahead with plans and spending tax dollars in planning for it.

It is now known, thanks to an Oregon Supreme Court ruling on another matter, that the only reason Oregon agreed to a new bridge was to force us to accept their overly expensive and failing folly of light rail.

Hence we hear words like “no light rail, no bridge,” “deal with it, its coming” and as we always hear from the overbearing left, “the debate is over.”

To that end citizens in Vancouver, Washington and Clark County have rallied together, speaking against the project at city council meetings, C-TRAN Board Meetings, County Commissioner Meetings and collecting as much information showing the futility and costly expenses associated with light rail that we in Clark County simply cannot afford.

Where Does the 14th Amendment Grant Dictatorial Power?

by lewwaters

Obama, DictatorThe latest effort to impose dictatorial control over the American people comes from Democrat Senate Leader out of Nevada, Harry Reid as he lends his voice to those from last year in calling on Obama to simply bypass congress and raise the nation’s debt as he sees fit, claiming he is granted that authority under the 14th amendment, passed shortly after the Civil War.

One of three ‘Reconstruction Amendments,’ the 14th is comprised of 5 sections primarily stating freed slaves were citizens of America with the full legal rights of any other citizen in the first three section and the 4th section basically laying out that the U.S. was not responsible for nor would pay any debts incurred by the Confederacy during the war.

Section 5 grants congress the power to enforce the amendment.

Section 4 is where Democrats now claim to have the authority for Obama to bypass congress on raising our public debt, claiming it says, “the validity of the public debt of the United States…shall not be questioned.”

In total, Section 4 says,

No Funding For CRC

by lewwaters

In the ongoing bi-state opposition to the CRC/light rail extension from Portland, Oregon into Washington, voices are being raised to counter efforts by advocates to appropriate funding for the project that voters have not yet been allowed to vote on, potentially violating Washington State’s High Capacity Transportation Act. While advocates continue to demand the project receive funding, neither state has yet shown the ability to budget the needed funds and both currently run deep budget deficits.

We have more pressing issues that need our dwindling tax dollars and this project needs stopped. At least until our economy improves, a workable design can be drawn that does not hamper river traffic and threaten hundreds of good paying jobs upriver from the I-5 bridge and most importantly, voters and taxpayers voices listened to since we are going to have to pay for it.

This is not a one state project and reaches across the state line of both of our states. Several times now opponents from Oregon have joined forces with Washington State taxpayers speaking out, attending rallies and holding press conferences. They come to our City Council Meeting and County Commissioner Meetings to lend their voices to ours.

They now ask for our help to speak out to Oregon Legislators.

HCT Act; is C-Tran in Compliance?

by lewwaters

C-TranSubmitted by Robert Dean

Actions and public statements from C-Tran indicate that they are aware of RCW 81.104 but either did not take it seriously or forgot many of its provisions. Similarly, CRC officials acknowledged the Act but did not plan the Project accordingly.

CRC Co-Director, Don Wagner, observed in 2010 that each one year delay in construction costs the public $100 million with 3% inflation. When he made that observation  he was expecting the C-Tran public vote on funding operations to take place that fall. If he had been familiar with the Act he would not have had that expectation.

C-Tran has recently scurried to comply with the Act:

Smoke & Mirrors Offered

by lewwaters

Moeller, Wylie Townhall

How many years have we been telling especially Moeller what is important to us and being ignored?

How many times have said the 2/3 supermajority for tax increases is important to us only to have Moeller join in a lawsuit against us to invalidate our votes on it?

When was the last time either Jim Moeller or Sharon Wylie gave a damn about anything other than furthering the leftist agenda?

Get Illegal Guns Off Of The Streets

by lewwaters

Gun 2Once again we see people deeply divided over the issue of gun control and our second amendment rights following a maniac committing mass murder in a school of young children. Some blame the gun while others blame the shooter and our mental health care system as both sides dig their feet in to promote their perceived solution.

As the rancor increases, bills are introduced by the droves in state legislatures and at the federal level, letters are written to newspapers, online forums light up with varying views and even face to face discussions occur, many heated and all too often, misrepresenting, misinterpreting or misunderstanding the opposing view.

Case in point, a video put out by the City of Newark, New Jersey featuring their Mayor, Cory Booker offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of someone carrying a gun within the city.

Valentine’s Dinner With Elvis – Supporting Veterans

by lewwaters

Vet ElvisFew entertainers have achieved the lasting notoriety as did Rock n Roll singing star, Elvis Presley. Presley died August 16, 1977 after a 24 year career on stage and in movies with his fame growing after his death, spawning the careers of many impressionists keeping his name and songs alive.

Many of today’s ‘Tribute Artists’ hadn’t been born when Presley was reaching the peak of his fame, but even they draw crowds to their shows as well as a competitions held throughout the land, judging which ones offer the overall best tributes to Elvis.

We are fortunate in Clark County to have one of the better artists, Mark Stevenz, a top 20 in the world Elvis Tribute Artist who has performed and delighted crowds all over North America, including Las Vegas and Memphis.

Publishing Gun Owners Names & Addresses

by lewwaters

Occupant Gun WarningIn typical leftist knee jerk fashion, some moron in New York at The Journal News decided to help curb gun violence, they would produce a list of all licensed concealed carry permit holders and place them on a map, letting any and all see just who in New York’s Westchester and Rockland counties owned a gun in their neighborhood.

With no thought of burglars also pick up and read newspapers, a representative of the paper said readers “are understandably interested to know about guns in their neighborhoods.”

The utter ignorance of such an act cannot be understated and the paper has been hearing the outrage from citizens, both those that own guns and others who don’t ever since they published the list shortly before Christmas.

Voters Thwarted By Downtown Mafia, Again

by lewwaters

Anger 3Once again, efforts to let voters voice their opinion in support of or opposition to forcing Clark County to accept Portland, Oregon’s financially troubled light rail seems to have fallen by the wayside as the Downtown light rail Mafia, better known as elected and appointed officials determined to force citizens to accept the boondoggle against their will have ruled yet another citizen petition calling for a vote as “invalid.”

And it cannot be ignored just how fishy this latest effort is.

Ever since Portland, Oregon decided to build a light rail system throughout their city, efforts have been underway to extend it across the Columbia River into Washington State in Clark County. That voters defeated the effort in 1995 by 2 to 1 margin did not matter as our vote was apparently immediately thrown into the trash can as rulers in both Portland and Vancouver, Washington have continued to plot, scheme and dream of ways to circumvent state law to bypass voters every chance they got.

Rattling C-Tran Not A Bad Thing

by lewwaters

C-Tran RattledOnce again, the Columbian is up to old tricks with their article, Madore rattles C-Tran board, describing actions of then Commissioner-elect, now Commissioner David Madore and his contacting North County Officials prior to his swearing in.

Not surprising either is the Columbian not quite getting it right.

The article tells us that Madore met with different officials from smaller cities in North County and shortly after, some withdrew their support of a sitting C-Tran Board Member who has served on the C-Tran Board for number of years.

They quote Battle Ground Mayor, Lisa Walters saying, “He hadn’t been sworn in yet, and he was already out causing trouble like this,” leading readers to believe she is upset over Madore’s contacting officials.

In reality, she isn’t as upset as they indicate.

Herrera Beutler Votes For the Destruction of America – UPDATED

by lewwaters

Herrera Obama 4Fresh off being reelected to her first term and before retaking the oath of office, 3rd Congressional District Jaime Herrera Beutler once again reached across the aisle to join with 172 Democrats in the house and 84 other RINO’s to approve the hastily passed “compromise” alleged to avoid the “fiscal Cliff.”

Total count was 172 Democrats and 85 RINO’s voted AYE while 151 Republicans and 16 Democrats wisely votes NOE.

This “compromise” will undoubtedly drive us back into deeper recession by adding $4 Trillion to the deficit over the next 10 years, promises $1 in spending cuts for every $41 in tax increases and extends unemployment entitlements for another year, among other provisions.
