“EQUALITY NOW!” Except in Accountability: Updated

by lewwaters

Kate Hunt 8By now I am sure most have heard the tale of the alleged persecution of a poor little 19-year old Lesbian down in Sebastian, Florida and how the homophobic forces are out to get her because she was having a consensual sexual affair with another girl in her school.

Well, that is the way her parents have laid it out in social web sites and news media ever since then 18-year old Kaitlyn Hunt was arrested in February, charged with lewd and lascivious battery since the 18-year old chose to engage in a sexual relationship with a 14-year old, well below the Age of Consent in Florida which remains at 16 years of age.

In plain terms, an under-aged minor may not consent to a sexual relationship and even though the consent age slightly differs throughout the country, every state has age of consent laws to protect minors.

Kaitlyn’s mother Kelley explained,

“They are out to destroy my daughter, because they feel like she ‘made’ their daughter gay. They see being gay as wrong and they blame my daughter. Of course, I see it 100% differently. I don’t see or label these girls as gay. They are teenagers in high school experimenting with their sexuality – with mutual consent. And even if their daughter is gay, who cares? She is still their daughter.”

Completely left out of that allegation is that her daughter is an adult, the other girl an under-aged minor. Trying to deflect that by creating a false illusion of “homophobia” or “gay bashing” is completely erroneous, County Sheriff Deryl Loar saying,

“If this was an 18-year-old male and that was a 14-year-old girl, it would have been prosecuted the same way.”

Even Sunny Hostin, legal analyst for CNN agrees, adding

“A kid, a child under the age of 16, cannot consent to having sexual relations with an 18-year-old, an adult under the eyes of the law. And that really is all this case comes down to when you look at it legally.”

A British media report on this matter includes a quote from unnamed Gay rights advocates that say,

“older high schoolers dating their younger counterparts is an innocuous, everyday occurrence that is not prosecuted – regardless of sexual orientation – and not a crime on par with predatory sex offenses.”

Sorry, but that is not quite accurate.

Much disinformation was released initially by her parents, including both her age and the minor’s age as they created the illusion of this being strictly about a consensual same-sex relationship, ignoring that Kaitlyn had been told by the minor girls parents to stay away from their daughter or that Kaitlyn once helped the minor run away from her parents home and Kaitlyn took the minor to her home where they engaged in sexual relations, Kaitlyn “penetrating her vagina with her fingers.”

As you can see in the following screen shot of the page set up by Kaitlyn’s father for petitioning the Attorney General to not prosecute, nothing is said about the other girl being an under-aged minor.

Articles found indicate that the parents upset and fighting to change statutory rape laws are parents of the older teens, not those of the younger victims. That they are interfering in someone else’s parental rights in raising their children doesn’t seem to matter to them, just that their little precious be permitted to go after whoever they can seduce, regardless of age or parental values.

But, given that there is this growing sympathetic movement completely disproves the claim of the Gay rights advocate above of this being “an innocuous, everyday occurrence that is not prosecuted.”

In this case, for some reason prosecutors offered Kaitlyn some very generous plea deals that would keep her out of jail and prevent her from having to register as a sex offender. So far, she refuses to accept them, opting instead for a trial by jury, hoping for an acquittal due to societal emotions over the law is my guess.

But while such generous plea deals were offered, it became known that she not refused to accept either of the plea deals, she also refused to follow the court order to stay away from and avoid contact the minor girl.

Prosecutors say they have “collected about 20,000 text messages between the two, all of which were sent after the defendant was ordered by two circuit judges to have no contact. They contain more than 25 ‘lewd and lascivious photographs,’ including some of Kaitlyn nude and engaging in sex acts and at least one video of her ‘pleasuring herself’.”

Apparently this young lady, an adult, has no intention of following any of our laws and expects a pass so she can please herself at the expense of another.

Also obvious, in keeping with the “slippery slope” many of us keep warning about as societal mores continue to disintegrate, homosexual activists have joined in by supporting Kaitlyn not being held accountable for her actions, with no regard for the then 14-year old possibly only being confused or deluded by an older girl.

A facebook page set up to support Kaitlyn, “Stop the Hate, Free Kate” contains the following image,

Sorry, she CHOSE to go after an under-aged minor. She CHOSE to continue to go after the girl in open violation of court orders, she CHOSE to do all of this and her parents CHOSE to make it a national issue and now, somebody CHOOSES to bring in high profile defense attorneys.

Kaitlyn’s mother posted on facebook,

“Dear friends and supporters, this afternoon we learned that Attorney William A. Korman, an attorney who has been nationally recognized for his work defending individuals accused of sexual misconduct, has joined Kate’s formidable legal team. Mr. Korman, who is based in Boston, Massachusetts, was so outraged by the spurious attacks against Kate, that he agreed to become involved in this case based on his moral outrage at the criminalization of what would be considered typical adolescent behavior and actions. We look forward to Attorney Korman assisting us in this matter. We thank you all for your continued support.”

What kind of an attorney would become “morally outraged” at an adult seducing and molesting an under-aged minor and support the perpetrator and not the under-aged victim?

Can you spell A-G-E-N-D-A?

It seems that “Equal Rights” for homosexuals now is moving towards ending age of consent laws, labeling them outdated, oppressive and harmful as we see the promotion of “Intergenerational Intimacy” coming to light.

We are becoming ever more desensitized into accepting yesterday’s immorality as today’s new morality. In other words, no morality at all.

Will child pornography laws one day face assault too?

This is where the push for equality stands today. Forced acceptance of a deviant lifestyle and removal of any laws that might protect young impressionable people from those practicing the deviancy.

Yes, it’s all about Equality. Except of course, when it comes to being held accountable, equally.

I’ve always been amused by the City Limit Sign down in the small town of Sebastian, Florida, having visited the city numerous times when my parents were alive and lived there. I feel it only appropriate to update it reflecting this case that is now internationally known.

  1. The thing about society is that it changes and so do its mores & values. “Slippery slope” is the term used by people who don’t want them to change.

  2. As a parent yourself, Martin, do you really advocate ridding society of age of consent laws?

Just letting young people be preyed upon by any pervert that is able to turn their heads for their pleasure?

  3. Sex as a crime is poorly understood and over-penalized.

Western society puts a lot of emphasis on sex. I’ve lived in Africa where incest in endemic, and here I’ve interviewed rape & incest victims as an attorney. My position on how our society currently handles sex-related crimes would take a while to explain, but I do know that those girls are being harmed more by the publicity (and the penalties) than the sex ever would have done.

  4. You have no problem with adult homosexuals, or heterosexuals for that matter, preying on minors, Martin?

If the publicity surrounding it concerns you, blame the very ones making it national news to help the adult be exonerated for molesting a minor.

The older teen has refused two plea bargains that would keep her out of jail and not require her to register as a sex offender. Instead, she is pushing for a court trial.

Do you not see an agenda here seeking to chip away at age of consent and make minors more available to perverts?

What Africa does is of little relevance, unless you prefer that we live as they do in Africa.

  5. This is one of those cases where the law gets in the way of parent-child relations — and the growing independence of teenagers. The age of consent varies throughout the country. Back in the 1950s, some states had age of consent as young as 14 — and in the 19th Century, right here in the USA, 14 year olds were often considered “adults” for work, marriage, and most other aspects of life.

So the “moral question” of age of consent does not have a general agreement and this is true by geography (in the U.S., to say nothing about the rest of the world) and it is true by historical standards. Even Washington has rather ambiguous rules regarding when a teen is “adult” and when she or he is not considered an adult. (Age of consent vs. age where seeking treatment for veneral disease without parental knowledge and so on.)

In situations where the sexual activity involves teens that are 5 years of less in age difference, it becomes more difficult. Children (for a variety of reasons) are reaching sexual maturity (even as their brains seem to take longer to mature) at earlier ages than was generally the case in years past. Of course, our culture also exposes teens and children to rather more “sexual content” than those of us that are two or three generations older… Indeed, a high school teacher -friend has described some of the overheard remarks from some of her students that are quite remarkable (even discounting for bragging). (The example of Bill Clinton was no help, culturally. And some teens seem to think that what Clinton and Lewinsky did is not “sex.” Try not to think on that too much.)

In the case where teens are within 5 years of age of each other, charging “statutory” rape is a serious over-charge of the “crime.” While I’m sure we agree that the sexual involvement between teens is probably not healthy (regardless of gender combinations) turning slightly older teens into life long “sex offenders” is a terrible price to pay when we’re dealing with partners who both are lacking in judgement and development of their frontal (brain) lobe where behavioral restraint is managed. Of course each state has its own rules in this regard — and, again, there is no uniformity throughout the U.S.

I agree that the approach of the family of the older girl in framing this as a “anti-homosexual” issue is neither reasonable nor an accurate explanation of the facts of the case. That their daughter is charged with a crime of life-long damage IS appropriate for complaint. There are countless cases where similar situations (both homo- and heterosexual in nature) where young people have been burdened for life with having to register as a sex offender — and in some cases, this is true even when they have married their “victim” once he/she has passed the age of consent in their local jurisdiction.

This appears to be a situation where a “senior” (or recent graduate) was “dating” a freshman or sophomore level student. This is extremely common — and was even back in the “stone age” when I attended high school in the 1960s.

Our culture has moved on. The “culture war” has been lost. It’s past time where we leave people alone. Hopefully, parents will be able to teach their children good judgment about the relationships they might have … but I note that it is all too often the case that the topic is not clearly and directly addresses — at least not until the parents object to a teen’s involvement with a particular person (and then, it’s too late).

  6. There’s also a double-standard in the public’s perception (and in the way current laws are enforced) between males and females. If an attractive 18 YO female had seduced me when I was 14 or 15, I would have thought that was the greatest thing since sliced bread – and so would most of my buddies. And I doubt many adults would even have taken notice. As “Friend” says, this sort of thing went on all the time back when I was in high-school, and still goes on now. The only thing different here, is the homosexual aspect. Bearing in mind that this is NOT a case of a much older internet or playground pervert seeking out young victims, this should be a matter between the parents and their kids. I think somewhat of a mountain is being made of a molehill.

  7. Apparently, NAMBLA wins this round.

Yes, let’s just allow children to be fresh meat for whoever wants them.

But at least, “enlightened” people will feel good.

I have to disagree with y’all, but maybe because my disagreement comes from first hand experience, having been molested as a young person.

I don’t find a lot of support for this coming from others who were molested as youths, mostly from those who weren’t and fall for the philosophical view bordering on “if it feels good, do it.”

  8. the Queers and the pedophiles just want free rein, that’s all

  9. Why would anybody condone an adult having sex with a child? Equality does not mean it is okay for some and not okay for others. Equality means you now abide by the laws for you sexual orientation. It is a crime to have sex with a minor, period. Straight or gay. Children are off limits. Pedophilia is a crime. Nobody cares about stopping the hate, what we care about is protecting our children from predators.

  10. Well, at least the schools provide free condoms. ah yeah whatever.

  11. Adult behavior means being responsible for your actions. We force kids to spend 13 yrs in school to prepare for adult behavior. The minute the lady in, now in jail for violating the terms of the plea agreement, and a do not contact order, will now become tomorrow’s lesson on the oppression, when instead she should be the poster girl for what happens when you violate a court order as an adult. Listen up kids, you will be put in jail. So think about it, is it really worth the loosing your freedom for a fourteen (fifteen?) year old who more than likely will not want anything to do with you after you get out of jail, nor will you want to any part of her once you have experienced jail. Fish sticks on Fridays, noodles all the time.

Face it you have violated the civil rights of the parents and the violated a child who because of the difference in ages, should never have been in the same room with you. This is classic Sandusky, only its painted pink.

Maybe the courts could hook the two up together, wouldn’t that cruel or just unusual punishment?.

  12. we don’t at all prepare kids for the “adult world” in school.

  13. While it is definite that a law in Florida was broken it is also certain that mixing this young woman in with a basket of adult perverts who pray on vulnerable kids does not make any sense. Upon conviction she is looking at 15 years or more of prison time and a lifetime of registration as a sexual offender This is just to extreme by any measure. There will be more harm done thru the way this case is being handled than the actual events.

  14. Maybe she should have thought about that prior to preying on a much younger girl.

It’s not like the consequences were a hidden secret.

She has already shown herself untrustworthy in her word to stay away from younger children.

She had every opportunity to avoid any jail time or having to register as a sex offender, but freely chose to thumb her nose at the law and the judge.

Too bad, so sad, her choice and she chose badly.
