Hope for Return of Stolen Medal of Honor Watch

by lewwaters

Few people have been prouder of their Father than Vancouver’s Penny Ross. And she has every right to be proud of her Dad, retired Navy Lieutenant Commander Donald K. Ross.

Most of us of the baby boomer generation grew up with fathers that served in World War Two and performed heroically and are also proud of their sacrifices.

But Penny’s father went well above and beyond on December 7, 1941, not just surviving the attack on Pearl Harbor, but becoming the very first recipient of the Medal of Honor in World War Two for his actions aboard the U.S.S. Nevada.

Annette Cleveland on a “Light Rail Ready” Bridge

Jim Moeller Discusses “Polarization”

by lewwaters

Once again, Jim Moeller’s spoken words are at odds with his written words.

I can’t think of a more polarizing figure in the legislature than Jim Moeller (D. 49)

Children’s Cancer Research Held Hostage to Light Rail Now?

by lewwaters

Child cancerA disturbing email I received this evening in my email;

Tell Oregon’s Leaders: Cancer Research can not be Held Hostage by the Columbia River Crossing.

Ask House Speaker Kotek, Senate President Courtney, Representative Buckley and Senator Devlin to state their commitment to considering the OHSU Cancer Research Center funding without the impediment of a tie to the Columbia River Crossing (CRC)

Makes Sense?

by lewwaters

Words spoken by Washington State Representative Sharon Wylie (D. 49) during a February 19, 2014 Tele-Town Hall held by her and fellow Democrats, Representative Jim Moeller and State Senator Annette Cleveland

Does she mean that they think the rest of things they do makes no sense?

About the Inevitable CRC Cost Overruns

by lewwaters

Still think Oregon will pay for any cost overruns associated with the CRC light rail boondoggle?

Oregon State Democrat Senator Michael Dembrow is letting you know, Clark County commuters, that you will be paying for whatever it is Oregon wants.

His cavalier attitude rivals the cluelessness of Washington State Democrat State Senator Annette Cleveland as she expressed the evening of Feb 19, 2014 during the tele-town hall held with constituents of the 49th legislative district.

I’d post the audio, but I guess you’ll have to wait for the Lazy C to post it since that is the preferred source of information.

Clark County, Let Oregon Know We Oppose ‘Go It Alone’

by lewwaters

Light Rail HellAs we all know, Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber continues to hallucinate under a misguided impression that he can force Clark County Washington taxpayers to pay for his long wanted light rail extension into our community, completely ignoring that voters have rejected it at every step allowed.

After the Washington legislature allowed it to die, Kitzhaber took it upon himself to resurrect the misguided notion with the help of our C-Tran Gang of Five that hastily entered into a contract with Trimet for their light rail, also turning their backs on Clark County voters.

A bill in the Oregon legislature that would authorize Oregon to proceed, setting the collecting of tolls on the already paid for bridge and construct this monstrosity is currently pending before the Oregon Joint Ways and Means Committee, having narrowly passed out of the House Transportation and Economic Development Committee.

Concrete Jungle and a Choo Choo Train

by lewwaters

Concrete JungleWhile not exactly the imaginary city of Mayberry, the city of Vancouver, Washington has long had a degree of rustic charm missing from the larger megalopolis south of the Columbia River, Portland, Oregon.

But, if city leaders, city government, Democrats, Developers and the city of Portland get to have their way, that rustic charm will be soon be buried deep under a Concrete Jungle built along the northern banks of the river and catered to by an eight-story monstrosity of a bridge built only to carry Portland’s light rail to Vancouver to ferry citizens, and their money, to Portland, leaving Vancouver with an ever dwindling revenue for her citizens.

This blog is just one that has written on the folly of the Columbia River Crossing light rail project over the years, but little has been said about another Portland envy dream of city leaders and developers, a Waterfront Project along the banks of the river that will offer high end shops, apartments and condominiums for the more wealthy, leaving the struggling middle class in Vancouver floundering and hoping to somehow gain employment as either housekeeping staff, wait staff or grounds keeper for those wealthy who would live there.

Big Changes For Clark County R3publican Party

by lewwaters

Ron Paul supporters Kenny Smith and Brenda Poletti have won Chair and Vice-chair of the party. Too bad, the party was showing signs of improvement.

This blog is not a part of the new R3PUBLICAN Party and will not support the party, they have their own official mouthpiece.

I will support individuals I feel are worthy of being elected, regardless of party affiliation., conservatism being the determining factor. And I do not mean the Ron Paulian version of what they claim is conservatism.

Elephant 1

UPDATE: No doubt indicative of what to expect, it has taken two weeks to finally place a notice on the R3publican Party website of the leadership change.

Where is Mayor Leavitt?

by lewwaters

LeavittPick up a copy of the Lazy C or just look out your window and we can see the city is beset with trouble. Roads are iced over with our third day of extreme cold weather and the Lazy C’s Sunday edition is quick to stir up fears over three shootings in two-days in the city.

They turn to road crews about the weather and question the County Sheriff over the shootings, but lacking is any quest for answers to recently reelected Mayor, Tim Leavitt.

We see reports from Portland TV News and read statements from Mayors across the country when crisis hits their communities. We see media pressing for answers. We see efforts of others to calm citizens, remind them that the weather will pass, drive safely, shootings are rare but that there are steps we can each take just in case.

Why Would Anybody Ever Vote Republican?

by lewwaters

Egg on FaceA common theme I am seeing in Democrat hopefuls for office this year is their claimed desire to tackle “dysfunction” in our political representation, ignoring that it has been their party as large contributors of “dysfunction.”

Of course, the intent is to claim that having any part of the government under a Republican majority and the rest a Democrat majority, as we see in Olympia and back in Washington D.C., makes it “dysfunctional” in such a way that Democrats are being blocked in what they wish to do.

I was preparing to do a post pointing out how it isn’t “dysfunctional” at all, but is what our founders intended, competing thoughts and ideologies coming together somewhere in middle ground to give the best compromises possible. Such a compromising attitude is what gave us our constitution after some real knock-down, drag out fighting.
