Okay, Who Left the Safe Spaces Doors Open?

by lewwaters

After weeks of contentious bickering, last minutes sexual allegations no one could corroborate and much wailing and gnashing of teeth, Brett Kavanaugh was finally confirmed to be our latest Associate Justice to the Supreme Court by a narrow 50 to 48 vote, largely along party lines.

I have to state that in all of my 70 years, this was the most pathetic display of underhanded, unnecessary and outrageous conduct on the part of Democrats I can recall.

Will Our Deep Divide Doom America?

by lewwaters

It seems everywhere we look today we see signs of the deep division we have allowed to foster in our country. It’s near inescapable as time and again we see counter protesters step in to prevent rallies by people with views different than theirs.

They claim to be “anti-Fascists” but rely on the tenets of fascism to break up rallies supporting free speech.

Although in Canada, recently a woman suffered a roundhouse kick on a public street simply for not agreeing with a person’s point of view.

For the past few weeks we have witnessed what can only be described as a circus over the nomination of D.C. Court of Appeals Judge Brett Kavanaugh to fill the seat on the U.S. Supreme Court being vacated by retiring Justice Kennedy, several Kavanaugh protesters being arrested for their egregious activities aimed at elected officials offices as Georgia Senator David Perdue urges Republicans to “fight back against paid protesters.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham on Fire

by lewwaters

It’s great to finally see a Republican grow a pair of balls and call this sham for what it is!

Brett Kavanaugh hit the nail on the head earlier on when he stated “advise and consent has been replaced by search and destroy.”

The Ritualistic Lynching of Brett Kavanaugh

by lewwaters

Brett Kavanaugh

How odd that in Democrats historical opposition to Brett Kavanaugh from when he was first nominated by president George W. Bush to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on July 25, 2003, even though drug out nearly three years by Democrats then, there were no allegations of sexual impropriety.

For example, Democrats accused him of being “too partisan.” Sen. Chuck Schumer stating, “Mr. Kavanaugh would probably win first prize as the hard-right’s political lawyer” and “Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the D.C. Circuit is not just a drop of salt in the partisan wounds, it is the whole shaker.”

Senator Dick Durbin calling him the “Forrest Gump of Republican politics.”

Updated: Did Pre-Paid Postage Increase Voter Turnout?

by lewwaters

Elections officials and political party leaders have long been concerned over what at times is an abysmal turnout of voters on our elections, especially in midterm or off-year elections. By all appearances it seems that unless a president is being elected, the majority of registered voters can’t be bothered to cast their vote.

In my opinion that is a deadly position to take as it is during those non-presidential elections when most local officials are elected, mayors, city council, county council or commissioners, each with more direct effect on citizens than any president.

An experiment was tried this year in Clark County of sending out postage pre-paid envelopes to entice voters to send in their ballots, since we are all mail-in voting. Did it improve anything?

Lazy C, Against Guns but for Socialism?

by lewwaters

This blog has never shied away from stating how the Lazy C, aka the Columbian newspaper, fails the very community it claims to serve with its bias and ignoring allegations of wrongdoing when it comes to Democrats.

Where they lack in deep investigative journalism locally, they make up by promoting whatever the latest agenda of the left may be.

Case in point, two editorials in the Sunday, Aug 5, 2018 edition, In Our View: Printing Guns a Dire Danger and Fear of socialism distorting nation’s political discourse.

A Word on #WalkAway

by lewwaters

Readers have no doubt seen or heard of the #WalkAway campaign where citizens lay claim to having been a Democrat for some time and for various reasons grew tired of the party and “walked away” from it to join the Republican Party.

As with many things where politics are concerned, we also see claims that the campaign is fake or not representative of how people actually feel. There is even been effort to sully the campaign by the use of stock photos of models, denied by the originator of course.

Regardless of whether or not the campaign used the stock photos or has given honest accounts of people fed up and walking away from the party, I can verify that people are in fact walking away. But is it all that unusual for people to be disillusioned and switch parties?

Are We Ready to Scrap Capitalism for Socialism?

by lewwaters

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.” – Margaret Thatcher

Democratic Socialist of America

It seems many from the left have forgotten the lessons taught to us by history in regards to the old theory of a government based upon Socialism. Socialism is described by a dictionary definition as, “a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.”

The wording actually sounds fairly nice and manageable, but the reality is what has been intended since long ago by Karl Marx and the Marxist theory is, “a transitional social state between the overthrow of capitalism and the realization of communism.”

Those advocating socialism often lecture us as to how fair it is, how we are all equal and we have equality in prosperity and life, escaping the bondage of capitalism where they claim only the wealthy ever prosper from the labors of the poorer workers.

No Longer Indifferent on Benton Nomination to Selective Service

by lewwaters

Don Benton

As we all know by now, former 5 term state senator Don Benton has been nominated by President Trump to head the Selective Service, aka the Draft to those of us old enough to remember that era.

I see no need to delve into the history of the draft, but also realize there is little chance it will be reactivated to induct young men and possibly young women into the Military.

That being said, I have been largely indifferent to the nomination of Don Benton or that he never served in the Military himself in any capacity. Although if approved he would be the first ever to head the department without Military Service, it really made no difference to me in large part due to the unlikelihood our youth would once again be conscripted.

UPDATED: Don Benton Nominated to Head Selective Service

by lewwaters

Breaking, former Washington State Senator Don Benton is being nominated to head the Selective Service System, aka to us older guys as “the draft.” Mr. Benton, although pro-military and pro-veteran, never served in any branch.

There currently is no draft in effect, the system was resurrected years ago just in case it was ever needed again.

In 2016, both the House and Senate saw bills introduced to abolish the Selective Service System.

Trump Wins and Life Goes On

by lewwaters

trump-006Yes, shocking to many but Donald Trump has won, maybe even eking out a small popular vote win as late arriving ballots are counted to go with the Electoral College win. His supporters are overjoyed and jubilant, much like we saw from Obama’s supporters in 2008 and 2012.

Hillary’s supporters are saddened and depressed, not unlike Republicans were 2008 and 2012.

The protests / riots seen around the country beginning the day after are far from the formation of the TEA Party rally’s seen in 2009. TEA Party rallies weren’t based on mayhem and destruction to stop Obama from taking office, though. That was over taxes and especially Obamacare.

Outrageous and Uncalled for

by lewwaters

It’s no secret that I did not support Donald Trump nor did I support Hillary Clinton. But what is seen in the following video must not be tolerated.

WARNING! GRAPHIC VIOLENCE

This reportedly happened in Chicago and it is reported that Police are investigating, but no arrests to date are reported. The elderly man is said to have been hospitalized and his car stolen by the thugs, that has not been recovered.

Sorry Republicans, It’s No Mandate

by lewwaters

Trump Flip OffAs we all know by now, acerbic Donald Trump came out ahead over Hillary Clinton to next occupy the office of the president. The win comes as no real surprise as one of the two was going to win and both were poor candidates, not what we need to heal our divided country.

Seeing now how the GOP claims to have a mandate and big win is most laughable as once again, we see the presidency won by electoral vote while coming in second in the popular vote.

I have no problem with that as that is the system our founders established. I do disagree with the ‘winner take all’ of 48 of our 50 states and believe each congressional district should have electors voting as did their district. But that is in the hands of the legislatures of each state.

What’s Happened to the Republican Party?

by lewwaters

Trump Flip OffI was born and raised in a strong Democrat family. No, not like today’s Democrats, far from it. A strong Southern Democrat family back when there actually was conservatives in the Democrat Party.

We know today that the Democrats have moved far to the left and if there are any conservatives left, they hide in the shadows.

It was the acts of Jimmy Carter that convinced me to become a Republican in 1977, seeing the Republicans were embracing conservative values, especially seen once Ronald Reagan defeated Carter in 1980.

Bedfellows and Frienemies

by lewwaters

PoliticianIt is often said, “politics makes strange bedfellows,” coined by American journalist Charles Dudley Warner in 1829.

Of course, on the opposite end of that is politics destroying friendships as well as being the cause of bitter arguments as was seen with the duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton in 1804 that lead to Hamilton’s death.

In our modern era, though, we do not engage in dueling, but with the onset of politics of personal destruction, opponents seek to destroy each other’s character while trying to hide their own flaws.

In the meantime, lines are drawn between supporters where we all too often witness bitter arguments, denigration of each other, verbal attacks with condescending denigrating attitudes.

Who the Next President Should Be

by lewwaters

Presidential SealIt is no secret the country is bitterly divided now that Donald Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee and likely will face Hillary Clinton in the November general election.

To say neither is qualified to occupy the Oval Office is a gross understatement, regardless of what either of their starry eyed devotees my claim.

Both are well known New York Liberals that care only about themselves and both would devastate our country if not plunge us into a bloody war.

Updated: The Great Orange Hope?

by lewwaters

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires” 2 Timothy 4:3

Trump Flip OffBy now we know that bombastic businessman Donald Trump is the presumptive nominee for President as a Republican this election.

I am at a total loss as to how so many allowed themselves to be deluded by such a charlatan running what I can only call a “slash and trash” campaign, very reminiscent of the actions years past with Ron Paul supporters.

Interesting enough, now those same people that joined Trump in trashing any and every body not supportive of the poseur are now demanding we all get behind and support his bid, engaging in fear mongering of a Hillary Clinton win.

Are Democrats Embracing Sharia?

by lewwaters
Robert Reich 1

Robert Reich

As we all know, there is little that the Democrat Party and Republican Party can find to agree on today. The division is so broad that I see no reconciliation between the warring ideologies in my lifetime.

Even where the parties were briefly united on opposing radical Jihadists and their acts of terror, I see a shift towards more acceptance and tolerance of the barbarism of radical Jihadists now beginning on the left.

My view is not based on misguided hyperbole as I will be accused of, but in their acts of defense of Islam after an attack as we saw in San Bernardino and even the open acceptance of largely unvetted “refugees” from Syria in spite of witnessing massive problems in Europe where they were first accepted.
