Disputing Jayne’s “Indisputable Evidence”

by lewwaters

Egg on FaceThat the Lazy C despises Republicans is well known in these parts and is likely the only real “indisputable fact” in all of Southwest Washington. And let’s face it; the local Republican Party makes it very easy for them with their ineptness and underhanded shenanigans to cling to control of the county party over keeping people informed.

But, the Lazy C’s Greg Jayne, in finally admitting he is the Liberal we always believed him to be, should have done his homework before posting his latest Sunday editorial: “Republican Party abandoned its most worthy ideals,” where he pretty much seems to indicate anything worthy of them was only when they acted more Liberal than Democrats.

He laments how they deny Gorebull warming even though the Environmental Protection Agency was created by Republican Richard Nixon in 1970.

Obama and the Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility Get it Wrong

by lewwaters

Once again, senseless tragedy has struck and nine innocent people lie dead in Charleston South Carolina where after sitting with parishioners for an hour last evening, 21-year old Dylann Roof opened fire, killing nine people.

Motive for the shooting remains unknown at this writing, but already we hear reports of he sported an apartheid flag on a shirt in a photo and drove around with a Confederate Flag on his car. That flag is not unusual in South Carolina and both Whites and Blacks have been seen sporting it, mostly Whites I will admit.

Of course since the shooter is White, that plays lead in many stories.

“EQUALITY NOW!” Except in Accountability: Updated

by lewwaters

Kate Hunt 8By now I am sure most have heard the tale of the alleged persecution of a poor little 19-year old Lesbian down in Sebastian, Florida and how the homophobic forces are out to get her because she was having a consensual sexual affair with another girl in her school.

Well, that is the way her parents have laid it out in social web sites and news media ever since then 18-year old Kaitlyn Hunt was arrested in February, charged with lewd and lascivious battery since the 18-year old chose to engage in a sexual relationship with a 14-year old, well below the Age of Consent in Florida which remains at 16 years of age.

In plain terms, an under-aged minor may not consent to a sexual relationship and even though the consent age slightly differs throughout the country, every state has age of consent laws to protect minors.

Fail: Happy Fathers Day, From the Lazy C

by lewwaters

Fathers DayFrom the looks of the Lazy C this Father’s Day weekend, either it is of no real importance any longer or they feel there are no decent Dad’s locally.

While maybe not a major holiday, Father’s Day is intended to be a day set aside honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. A way to recognize the contribution of hard working Dad’s in raising families, providing, protecting and caring for their families.

As a father myself, it’s nice to be recognized for one special day. In spite of our shortcomings and missteps, the overall majority of us do the best we can juggling work, home and yes, dealing with both wives and children after a long day working.

But, the Lazy C seems to see it as just another day to push the CRC agenda and berate citizens locally for not wanting to take on more debt for another public/private adventure to benefit a minor league baseball team owner, not even an acknowledgement on their front page Sunday.

Make the Freeholders Partisan

by lewwaters

repub-demNow that a Home Rule Charter is popular with the left, after years of their opposing the same rule, there is an effort to make the Freeholders “non-partisan,” not declaring any Political Party.

Bad idea in my opinion.

County Commissioner Tom Mielke said it best before when he said the positions should be Partisan with, “it gives voters an idea regarding governing philosophy.”

I know it is becoming commonplace to claim “non-partisan” with our Top Two Primary system, but let’s face it, anybody elected brings with them a “Partisan” viewpoint. From City Council members to Freeholders, whoever holds the seat will govern from a “Partisan” viewpoint.

We also know that Democrats now favor Home Rule due solely to the election of Commissioner David Madore and the reelection of Commissioner Tom Mielke, giving the County Commission a true Conservative Republican majority.

UPDATED: CRC Proponents, Lazy C Not Letting a Good Crisis Go To Waste

by lewwaters

UPDATE: Not shown on the front page of the May 24 Columbian addressing the “collapse,” but admitted in a separate but smaller article online, North Wash. I-5 bridge collapse caused by oversize load. While this is being used to inflame the CRC debate and hammer opponents, not one thing in the CRC plans would have prevented such an accident from happening. And in fact, given the inadequate river clearance of the current design, such an accident is more likely to happen if a ship or barge struck the lower level trying to pass underneath.

Skagit Bridge CollapseSad news to hear of the I-5 Bridge over the Skagit River up in Skagit County collapsing this evening. We pray that early reports of only minor injuries hold up and that no one lost their life.

A bridge collapse is never good news and must be taken seriously, given that we depend on these bridges to travel to and fro.

But, knee-jerk reactions to further a political agenda or justify bankrupting middle class taxpayers must be stood up to and not allowed to sway emotions to vote to increase taxes where they are not needed.

Within minutes of the news of the bridge collapsing the Lazy C had their article up, complete with their spin of information used to justify coercing opponents of the Columbia River Crossing light rail project to cave and cease our opposition, lest it happen here, as they have tried to claim is imminent unless we accept Portland’s financially failing light rail into our community.
