49th Legislative District 2016 Election

by lewwaters

With the announcement of seven-term Democrat, Jim Moeller not running for another term, the election takes an interesting turn in position 2, 49th Legislative District and as happens in other vacated seats, there is no shortage of hopefuls vying to succeed Moeller as he hopes to unseat 3rd Congressional District Representative, Jaime Herrera Beutler after abandoning his announced run for Lt. Governor.

SENATE

Annette Cleveland, Lewis Gerhardt, Vaughn Henderson, Justin Forsman

Rep. Wylie & Sen. Cleveland on “That Bridge”

by lewwaters

An excerpt from the Feb 23, 2016 tele-town hall convened by Rep Sharon Wylie (D. 49) and Sen. Annette Cleveland (D. 49) responding to a constituent question concerning “That Bridge.”

Of note is how both craftily avoided using the words “light rail” since the effort to force light rail on the community against our wishes is what forced the bloated boondoggle into a comatose state.

Cleveland Still Doesn’t Get It! Updated

by lewwaters

April 23, 2015: Liz Pike’s Bi-State Bridge Coalition Q & A

Cleveland 3Annette Cleveland, Democrat 49th Legislative District State Senator once again fires and misses the target! In an op-ed published by the Lazy C, pertaining to renewed efforts to engage Oregon in discussions on alleviating traffic congestion on the overcrowded I-5 corridor, she once again spews her misguided view.

“As we consider any renewed effort to come up with a plan to replace the dangerous Interstate 5 Bridge, it is imperative that we apply the lessons of the more than 10-year effort to build the Columbia River Crossing,” Cleveland writes.

She continues, “First, we learned that a decade-long process of designs, plans and public meetings can be derailed at the 11th hour, wasting millions of dollars already spent and leaving hundreds of millions of federal dollars on the table. We can’t afford to squander taxpayer dollars like that.”

Makes Sense

by lewwaters

If Sharon Wylie, Jim Moeller and Annette Cleveland all agree that only “some of the things they do makes sense,” does that mean they realize some of the other things they do make no sense at all?

Don’t you agree it is time we elected people that will work to do things that “make sense” all of the time?

CRC Dead? Or Just In A Coma, Again?

by lewwaters

I-5 Bridge 02I can’t say it is unexpected, given strong citizen opposition and poor support in the Oregon legislature, but news is out that Oregon Governor Kitzhaber’s Sunday, March 9 deadline for funding an “Oregon Only” CRC plan to ram their financially failing light rail onto Clark County will see the demise of the project, again.

We heard this before, though. Just last year the Washington Senate failed to bring a funding measure to the floor, effectively ending Washington State’s involvement in the boondoggle.

But special interests hell bent on forcing light rail across the Columbia River, thereby enhancing their bank accounts, revived the project under an ill-advised “Oregon Only” plan, where the state of Oregon appeared to take on construction by themselves and funding to be placed on the backs of Clark County commuters with expensive tolling.

Annette Cleveland on a “Light Rail Ready” Bridge

Makes Sense?

by lewwaters

Words spoken by Washington State Representative Sharon Wylie (D. 49) during a February 19, 2014 Tele-Town Hall held by her and fellow Democrats, Representative Jim Moeller and State Senator Annette Cleveland

Does she mean that they think the rest of things they do makes no sense?

Concrete Jungle and a Choo Choo Train

by lewwaters

Concrete JungleWhile not exactly the imaginary city of Mayberry, the city of Vancouver, Washington has long had a degree of rustic charm missing from the larger megalopolis south of the Columbia River, Portland, Oregon.

But, if city leaders, city government, Democrats, Developers and the city of Portland get to have their way, that rustic charm will be soon be buried deep under a Concrete Jungle built along the northern banks of the river and catered to by an eight-story monstrosity of a bridge built only to carry Portland’s light rail to Vancouver to ferry citizens, and their money, to Portland, leaving Vancouver with an ever dwindling revenue for her citizens.

This blog is just one that has written on the folly of the Columbia River Crossing light rail project over the years, but little has been said about another Portland envy dream of city leaders and developers, a Waterfront Project along the banks of the river that will offer high end shops, apartments and condominiums for the more wealthy, leaving the struggling middle class in Vancouver floundering and hoping to somehow gain employment as either housekeeping staff, wait staff or grounds keeper for those wealthy who would live there.

Cleveland’s Talking Points Out Of Touch With Constituents

by lewwaters

Cleveland 3There is an old saying by Mark Twain that goes, “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.”

The quote can fit no one better than 49th Legislative District Senator Annette Cleveland who tries to portray herself as learned and relevant, even though she has yet to complete a single year in office.

Face it, she didn’t win the election because of any great intellect or connection with voters, but solely because she registered as a Democrat running in the heavily Democrat 49th district. A district so out of touch with itself that it repeatedly reelects Jim Moeller, knowing he sued them to invalidate their votes so he can raise their taxes easier.

Even the Lazy C, in endorsing her last year admitted the Republican candidate, Eileen Qutub, was the more experienced and all around better candidate, but that Cleveland was running in a Democrat district so they went with her.

Voters? We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Voters

by lewwaters

Pile Driver 1Either the fix is in or someone has been given the word that construction of a new bridge is likely a sure thing.

I received word today from a well connected source that a “worldwide mega-corporation” is making calls locally to ensure there will be 800 pile drivers on hand by fall of 2014 to “begin construction on a bridge across the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington.”

This has not been confirmed by an “official” but the source is very well connected to be included in inside information.

It is unknown if this is a move to just be ready in case the CRC is funded or if the go ahead has been given at the highest of levels to build it.

Annette Cleveland Condemns Scoring Political Points by Trying to Score a Political Point

by lewwaters

Annette Cleveland As I suspected last year during the campaign for the 2012 election, Annette Cleveland has shown herself to be nothing more than another Jim Moeller tool blindly advocating for the Columbia River Crossing light rail project.

Cleveland, a Democrat from Washington’s 49th legislative district, the same district as Moeller was easily elected, even though she had no political experience that even the Lazy C admitted her opponent, Republican Eileen Qutub had the qualifications as they endorsed Cleveland.

But elected she was and as suspected, walks lock-step with the Democrat Party and Jim Moeller.

I say this as just this afternoon I received her June 3, 2013 e-newsletter where much of it is devoted to fearmongering over the collapse of the Skagit River Bridge after having 10 structural support beams damaged by an over-sized load on a semi-truck.

Lazy C Gets it Wrong, Yet Again

by lewwaters

Light Rail HellRegular readers know that the so called newspaper of record, heavily biased towards strapping the struggling middle class with more expenses in order to pay for forcing the financially failing light rail into Clark County from Portland, is probably one of the least reliable sources of news in the Pacific Northwest.

Hence, they are labeled the Lazy C for not properly vetting or researching many subjects, primarily anything political in nature or critical of the Columbia River Crossing light rail project,

They spare no ink when it comes to maligning critics and in large part, is behind the current brouhaha over County Commissioners Mielke & Madore being blasted daily for over a week now for legally hiring much hated State Sen. Don Benton to head the County Dept of Environmental Services.

But they out do themselves in getting wrong in what seems like an attempt to smear a group critical of the current CRC design and calling themselves the I-5 Project Inc. as they run an article on lobbying efforts on behalf of both sides of the issue, CRC foes, supporters step up lobbying efforts

Cleveland, Wylie & Moeller Vow to Screw the Middle Class

by lewwaters

screwedIgnoring the concerns of their constituents in the 49th Legislative District, all 3 Democrats elected to represent us have now vowed to cast our concerns aside, continue ignoring our voices and work as hard as possible to screw us over to ensure funding of the highly unpopular Columbia River Crossing light rail project.

An email received from rookie Senator Annette Cleveland today says, “We are working hard to fund the Columbia River Crossing”, concluding with “Rep. Moeller, Rep. Wylie and I will continue to work on CRC funding throughout the special legislative session to ensure that our state meets the September deadline and qualifies for the $850 million in federal funds. Anything less would be fiscal lunacy and a terrible mistake for our community’s future.”

That voters have rejected every funding measure proposed and outright rejected light rail itself back in 1995 doesn’t enter into the equation.

Updated: A Bird In The Hand Beats a Bridge Too Low

by lewwaters

Bird, VultureMore and more it appears as if proponents are following Washington Governor Jay Inslee’s admonition of “increase the decibels” in a late effort to finally ram the Columbia River Crossing light rail project off onto Clark County citizens, even though every indication shows they strongly oppose it.

Of course, “increase the decibels” we know to mean shout down opponents, marginalize them, ignore them and just blindly push ahead, shortcomings be damned.

Editor of the Columbian mouthpiece, Lou Brancaccio says, “There have been so many missteps on this Columbia River Crossing project that if it was entered on ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ it would be voted off before Mike Tyson. It’s just mess after mess. The tomfoolery is epic. Even its most ardent supporters would agree with this. For me, I hold my nose and close my eyes, and say we should move forward.”

49th Legislative District Representative Sharon Wylie says, “We can always wish for a better process, however, we wound up with a process of our own making, based on the quantity and quality of our participation. The process may not have been perfect, but it was open and it was fair.”

Gov. Inslee Ramps Up the Democrats Assault on the Middle Class

by lewwaters
Gov. Inlsee

Gov. Inlsee

Fresh off of his Friday March 22, 2013 closed door meeting with select supporters of the Columbia River Crossing project, the massive light rail extension project from Portland, Oregon that will leave Clark County’s struggling middle class taxpayer’s paying for decades on a project they voted down, Washington State’s newly elected Governor Jay Inslee released his awaited budget proposal today, March 28, 2013.

Apparently not content that the cost of the CRC is expected to hit as high as $10 Billion, once interest on bonds and cost over runs are factored in, Inslee’s budget proposal includes several tax increases, extensions and converting temporary tax increases into permanent tax increases, just about all of which will end up on the backs of the very middle class taxpayer Democrats continue to claim they support.

It was just prior to his inauguration in January 2013 that Inslee was citing no tax increases would be needed for him to handle the projected budget shortfall that is now exceeding $1.2 Billion, again.

Very craftily, he left open the idea of eliminating some tax breaks.

Slick Used Car Salesman Tactics Promoting the CRC Lemon

by lewwaters

Car Sales 1Next to a politician, a car salesman ranks as one of the shiftiest occupations someone can take. They will lure, lie, mislead, con and deceive people into buying a car. This is especially true when it comes to used cars.

It also appears true when elected officials desire to sell taxpayers on an unneeded and unwanted project like the Columbia River Crossing light rail project from Portland, Oregon into Vancouver, Washington that voters have repeatedly expressed their opposition to, once directly and three times by proxy.

49th Legislative District Representative Jim Moeller seems to be the head salesman for this lemon as he tries to mislead voters with his campaign of disinformation exposed at Rep Jim Moeller’s Latest Act of Desperation, Lie.

Acting much like Car Fax, revealing the history of that cherry the salesman is trying to push off on you as really a lemon, concerned citizens began seeing the claims and numbers cited simply were not adding up and formed groups like StopCRC.com and CRCFacts.info adding to the revelations seen from Couv.com, opening citizens eyes and growing opposition.

A “Kangaroo Townhall” Won’t Help the CRC

by lewwaters

We’re all familiar with the term, Kangaroo Court meaning “a mock court in which the principles of law and justice are disregarded or perverted.” Maybe it is time we also applied it to townhalls by elected officials who have no intent to listen to constituents and instead seem to think they have to sell us on a defective project the majority of their constituents’ have indicated they do not want.

A Townhall is supposed to be an “informal public meeting where everybody in a town community is invited to attend, voice their opinions, and hear the responses from public figures and elected officials about shared subjects of interest.”

But as we continue to see, many of those elected officials appear reluctant to listen to constituents areas of concern in Washington State 49th Legislative District, especially where the overly ambitious Columbia River Crossing Project is concerned.

Democrats Waging War Against the Middle Class in Court

by lewwaters

Poor ManThe middle class in Washington State was struck a cruel blow yesterday when the State Supreme Court ruled against citizens and sided with Democrats and Education Union Groups in finding unconstitutional citizen initiatives requiring the state legislature to reach a 2/3 supermajority vote in order to raise our taxes.

Most telling is just who the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, filed shortly after voters for the 4th time approved the requirement of a 2/3 supermajority in I-1053 in 2010.

In addition to the League of Education Voters and the Washington Education Association we also see Representative Laurie Jinkins (D. 27th); Representative Jamie Pedersen (D. 43rd); Representative Deb Eddy (D. 48th); Representative Sam Hunt (D. 22nd); Representative Jim Moeller (D. 49th); Representative Timm Ormsby (D. 3rd); Representative Eric Pettigrew (D. 37th); Representative Chris Reykdal (D. 22nd); Representative Cindy Ryu (D. 32nd); Representative Mike Sells (D. 38th) and State Senator David Frockt (46th) listed as plaintiffs against middle class citizens of Washington State.

Jim Moeller was quoted in the pages of the Columbian saying, “The constitutional legality of the supermajority has gone unresolved for many years, and I’m really pleased that the court has finally settled the issue.”

49th Legislative District Legislators AWOL When It Matters

by lewwaters

DSC00244Washington State 49th Legislative District is probably one of the most liberal districts in the state if not the most liberal. A conservative Republican candidate doesn’t stand a chance of being elected in the 49th as all that seems to matter is that ‘D’ behind a candidate’s name, evidenced by the reelection of Jim Moeller 5 times, even though he openly holds constituents in deep disdain, passing ridiculous taxes that get overturned by citizen initiative and even suing constituents to invalidate their votes when he disagrees with them.

Moeller seems to think his reelection and the election of Sharon Wylie, married to Vancouver City Attorney Ted Gathe, even the election of inexperienced Annette Cleveland to the State Senate over Eileen Qutub in 2012, an experienced former legislator from Oregon (just like Wylie) grants them some sort of carte blanche to just do as they please, very proud of the fact that his party has held a lock on state government for over a decade.

But let’s face it, you find the dead, rotting carcass of a road kill raccoon and run it in the 49th as a Democrat and it would get elected by at least 60%, voters not looking at anything but party affiliation.

Columbian Gets It Wrong Again, In Favor of a Democrat – Updated

by lewwaters

Newspaper 2Once again we see the Columbian living up to their reputation of being the daily newsletter for the Democrat Party, hard pressed to give credit to Republicans for their work and crediting it to the newest, least experienced State Senator recently elected in the 49th Legislative District, Annette Cleveland, who’s main experience seems to be her boasting of coming from an ILWU family.

At about 6 AM this very morning, the Columbian posted online Tax bill brings lawmakers together with the claim,

“Senate Bill 5325, which seeks to add Clark County to a list of “rural” counties that receive .09 percent of their sales taxes back each year, has received support from both Democrats and Republicans from Southwest Washington. House Bill 1553 is the companion bill.”

“Sen. Annette Cleveland, D-Vancouver, sponsored the Senate bill with three Republicans.”
