Election Hangovers & Gloating

by lewwaters

I VotedWell, we made it through to Wednesday and it’s all over for some candidates while some others remain to be sorted out as ballots continue trickling in and being counted.

In all, I have no complaints on this election, save I was hoping to see Maria Salazar shake things up a bit in Ridgefield and breakup that good old boy club atmosphere out there. Sadly her race went to the incumbent, but Maria ran a good race, facing a whisper campaign of unsavory gossip about her.

The most watched race, Clark County Council Chair remains undecided whether it will go to Battle Ground Council Member Mike Dalesandro of former Clark Commissioner Marc Boldt.

George Francisco, Honesty Really Is the Best Policy

by lewwaters
George Francisco

George Francisco

I really had intended to stay out of campaigns this election, but at this late date find myself compelled to enter the fray to not only counter the many lies being told by Vancouver City Council candidate, George R. Francisco against incumbent Bill Turlay, a decorated retired U.S. Navy Jet Pilot, but also to shine a little light on what he hasn’t been too forthcoming with.

It must be remembered that Mr. Turlay came under fire back in 2013 over a 20-year old business bankruptcy when he ran against Mayor Tim ‘the Liar’ Leavitt. Yet, in this 2015 race with Francisco endorsed by Leavitt, no one is discussing Francisco’s more recent bankruptcy I stumbled across this evening vetting him.

Unfortunately for Mr. Francisco, it is the very lies he has continued telling that prompted me to vet him, since apparently the Lazy C isn’t as interested now as they were two years ago. You started lying, George and I went looking.

More Lies and Desperation from George Francisco

by lewwaters
George Francisco

George Francisco

Just like his mentor, Tim ‘the Liar’ Leavitt, George R. Francisco is running for office and basing his campaign on a flat out lie.

Even though brought to his attention long ago that incumbent council member Turlay had distanced himself from county councilor Madore and the Liz Pike write-in effort, Francisco continues to claim a false linkage of Turlay and Madore due to support from over 4 years ago.

Isn’t one proven Liar enough on Vancouver City Council?

Why can’t George Francisco stop lying about the incumbent council member and address issues of importance to the city? I ask that due to seeing just today next to a Lazy C article addressing a $4 Million projected surplus for Vancouver revenues, the following ad for Francisco, again making the false claim on Turlay

More Desperation and Prevarication in Vancouver

by lewwaters

Word has reached me that Vancouver Mayor, Tim ‘the Liar’ Leavitt is working overtime trying to create a link between David Madore and city councilor Bill Turlay in order to help out his rubber stamp friend, George Francisco since Madore donated to his campaign 4 years ago.

I have to wonder just where Timmy gets off with that considering how in 2009, Tim lied through his teeth on tolls and the CRC, adopting basically the same stand held by David Madore in order to get elected Mayor?

In 2009, Timmy wasn’t very happy over a false linkage to Republican Dino Rossi from a couple years earlier,

Updated: Desperation in City Council Race?

by lewwaters

Yes, I vowed to neither support nor oppose any candidate in this election, but blatant lies by a candidate must not stand.

We all know how Mayor Tim ‘the liar’ Leavitt lied on opposing tolls should a new bridge be built back in 2009, only to quickly switch to strongly supporting them after winning against former Mayor Pollard.

We also know how the local alleged newspaper has demonized county councilor Madore, labeling those they lumped in with him, even though they were not part of any cabal as “the Madore Four.”

The campaign then and the efforts of the Lazy C, particularly from the editors would have made Joseph Goebbels proud.

Moeller’s Response to Climate Debate Challenge

by lewwaters

As most know, Vancouver City Council member Bill Turlay, a retired US Navy aircraft pilot, challenged Washington State Rep. Jim Moeller (D 49) to an open debate on the claims of man-made global warming, climate change when it is shown the earth has been cooling instead of warming up. Last evening Mr. Turlay told of the sort of response he received from Moeller,

I wonder what his next excuse will be to not accept the challenge, even though he claims he and his fellow Democrats “have science… and lots of it” to support their view?

Rep. Moeller Challenged to Public Climate Debate

by lewwaters
Jim Moeller

Jim Moeller

Democrat 49th legislative district Representative Jim Moeller is well known for his arrogance and “know it all” attitude and loves to portray himself and his fellow Democrats as the only people in the state who care about anything.

Such is the case back on January 8, 2014 when he commented to a Lazy C article, “Republicans on climate panel want more time.”

Moeller said, “Yes regretfully, only the Democrats seem to believe in doing something about climate change. It’s ‘nice’ to try and include the Republicans in the discussion about what to do but they have to look out for those who make money on pollution. The Democrats only have science – and lots of it.”

Lazy C Goes Barrel Scrapping, Again (Updated)

by lewwaters

Barrel 2It’s a given that a conservative candidate, for the most part, cannot get a fair shake when it comes to news by the Lazy C, aka the Columbian. Especially if they oppose the CRC they can expect to never see a positive word about them in the pages.

Editor Lou Brancaccio has claimed many times now that it is not so, but the evidence of their bias is so blatant it literally screams.

Such is the case with Vancouver City Council member Bill Turlay, running to replace Mayor Tim Leavitt.

Turlay has not once received the papers endorsement in previous tries for office, but the people rallied behind him since he actually sides with the people against special interest groups promoting the disastrous CRC light rail project.

Leavitt Whines, But Goes Sleaze Himself

by lewwaters

DSC00947aUnbelievable for anybody else, but not Tim ‘the Liar’ Leavitt, one of the dirtiest Mayor’s Vancouver has ever seen.

This blog recently showed where Leavitt is little more than a Whiny CRC Whore, crying the blues about being picked on and how he is constantly being attacked, boo hoo, boo hoo, boo hoo.

We showed this is much the same ‘victim card’ he used back in 2009 against Royce Pollard, Leavitt’s blatant lies now well known around town, except with the writers down at the Lazy C that seem to have forgotten how they blasted Leavitt back in 2009 and 2010.

Turlay Takes Oath of Office for City Council Seat

by lewwaters

Bill Turlay, winner of a 3 way contest of Vancouver City Council position number 6 took the oath of office last evening, along with returning council members, Bart Hansen and Larry Smith. The oath was administered by city attorney, Ted Gaithe.

Bill’s wife, Stephanie stood by his side holding a family Bible as Bill placed his left hand on the Bible and taking the oat with his right hand raised.

Although no longer required to do so, he was the only one of the three taking the oath to place his hand on a Bible or use the traditional ending to an oath, “so help me God.”

Clark County Conservative welcomes Bill Turlay to the city council and we look forward to exciting days ahead.

Is Bill Turlay In For The Mielke Treatment?

by lewwaters

Like them or not, we have to admit the Columbian is about the most transparent newspaper in existence. You can pretty much tell where their articles lean politically every time.

All we need do is look back at the disparity in their coverage of Tea Party rallies compared with nearly twice as much coverage given to Occupy rallies in Vancouver. Several reporters were sent out to cover the initial rally of between 600 to 700 people while a previous Tea Party rally in Esther Short Park saw no coverage at all.

We were treated to numerous articles covering the scandalous resignation of former Republican representative Richard Curtis, while no one is at all interested in a single rumor on alcoholic escapades and harassment against female staffers by former Democrat representative Jim Jacks.

It is difficult to find any favorable mention on Republican State Senator Don Benton just as there is with county commissioner Tom Mielke, who beat out Democrat Pam Brokaw, who the Columbian just so happened to endorse.

The negative coverage of candidates they do not endorse and those who support them reach legendary status, as we saw last year with Alan Svehaug and as we saw this year with Josephine Wentzel and with successful businessman David Madore, who happens to oppose a major project they support, CRC with light rail from Portland.

If Vietnam Service Really Matters In The Vancouver City Council Race

by lewwaters

The latest ad on behalf of Anne McEnerny-Ogle by the New York Unite Here Union, who represents the Hilton employees currently seeking a 53% wage & benefit increase makes the claim of she is “married to a Vietnam Veteran.” Speaking with Anne previously, this is a true claim and even though I haven’t met her husband, I have every reason to believe he is as proud of his service as I am my own in Vietnam.

But, does having married someone who served in Vietnam matter more than someone who actually did serve in or over Vietnam?

As previously noted, Anne’s opponent, Bill Turlay is a retired combat Navy Pilot. Bill flew some 385 combat missions over Vietnam, was subjected to ground fire and whatever the North Vietnamese forces sent his way. He was awarded 25 Air Medals through 3 tours with 800 carrier landings, 200 at night!

I have no doubt Anne’s husbands record is also filled with honorable service, but I have to ask, what does that have to do with Anne’s ability to serve on the city council?

My own wife gains nothing to qualify her due to my service. Bill’s wife gains no extra qualification due to his service either.

A CASA Volunteer, Another Questionable Mailer and Yellow Journalism

by lewwaters

Once again we see Clark County’s version of Pravda, the state mouthpiece for the former Soviet Union engaging in yellow journalism to the benefit of a candidate they openly prefer and support as they “appear’ to label city council candidate Josephine Wentzel as a liar in their hit piece, Claim on group’s flier supporting Wentzel appears false.

Andrea Damewood claims to have “been looking into claims made by all candidates and PACs” and to have “waited two days to hear a response from Josephine about whether she was a CASA in the past, and where it was if not in Clark County” and not hearing from Ms. Wentzel, decided to run with her hit piece.

No word on just what verification she found on some of Wentzel’s opponent, incumbent Bart Hansen’s claims he makes in this campaign. Some of his claims might be difficult to confirm on paper, but I find them believable, just as I find Wentzel’s claims of being a CASA Volunteer since speaking with her personally.

I cannot fault Wentzel for not speaking much with those down at the Columbian after they chose to personally denigrate her in their endorsement of Hansen by labeling her “a toxic influence at council meetings, a chronic complainer whose frequent trips to the podium have followed a pattern of unproductive negativity” and “has shown no capacity to cooperate with any elective body. Her obstructive, combative approach does not fit well in collaborative community discussions.”

Anyone attending or viewing video of city council meetings readily sees that as untrue. Speaking before council in opposition to a project many in the community oppose is an inherent right of ours as Americans and does not give elected officials the right to try to silence, or as we have come to say here, to ‘gavel down’ taxpayers first amendment right.

Turlay Endorsed by Campbell, McEnerny-Ogle Reaction Disappointing

by lewwaters

In a move that seems to have surprised most everybody, outgoing Vancouver City Council member Pat Campbell has come out endorsing Bill Turlay as best suited to replace him.

Campbell endorses Turlay for his Vancouver seat

Campbell cites as his reason, “Although Bill Turlay and I take opposite stances on some local issues such as light rail, public bus service, and the Columbia River Crossing (not to mention our disagreements on national issues!), I am endorsing him for the citizens. Position 6 has a history of being occupied by straight shooters who have put service ahead of self or reelection.”

“Bill doesn’t make rash promises or play people for political gain. He hasn’t put himself in the middle of property or labor negotiations for political traction. Most voters know where Bill stands. Many more need to know that he is a man of integrity, friendliness, and grace. That is what we all will need during what look like even more difficult times until things eventually change for the better.”

Especially relevant to Campbell’s endorsement was Turlay’s recent “denouncing negative fliers and TV ads put out independently by the Save Our City Political Action Committee” on his behalf.

Why Is A New York Union PAC Investing In the Vancouver City Council?

by lewwaters

It appears the same New York Union PAC, Unite Here Tip State and Local Fund that spent over $50,000 in ‘in-kind’ contributions to see Tim Leavitt elected as Mayor in 2009 is back, pouring over $32,000 in more in-kind contributions to see Anne McEnerny-Ogle elected to the city council.

It should be noted that ‘in-kind’ contributions are not sought by candidates, but contributed without a candidate’s prior approval by those who wish to see them elected. And yes, they are made on behalf of many other candidates.
