Bidding the Boy Scouts of America Goodbye

by lewwaters

Boy Scout 1As a young boy, I was really proud when I became a Cub Scout, then a Weblogs and finally a Boy Scout, rising to Life (I discovered cars & girls that occupied my attention in High School before earning my final merit badge to be an Eagle Scout), Junior Assistant Scoutmaster and enjoyed several years in the organization.

Camping, hunting, caring for the land we camped on and Patriotism are skills learned that have served me well, discipline I learned early serving me during my 8 years active duty in the U.S. Army and tours in Vietnam.

It is an organization that has taught many a young boy skills needed to go on to becoming great leaders of society.

Rob McKenna Favors Letting Homosexuals into the Boy Scouts

by lewwaters

It seems that Rob McKenna is finally stripping away any semblance to conservatism that he once tried to mask himself in. It’s almost as if he has decided conservatives and our values mean absolutely nothing and he expects liberal Democrats to flee Jay Inslee and vote for him instead.

Most of us realize he is a moderate, a RINO if you will and has taken strides to prove he opposes many conservative values while issuing statements at times that he might have some support for conservatism.

We saw this as he scrambled to perform damage control after he let it be known he disagreed with the rest of the conservative Republicans on appealing Obamacare after the Supreme Court ruled it constitutional as a tax penalty.

We saw it as he fought all the way to the Supreme Court to release the names, addresses and signatures of all those people who signed R-71, the referendum to allow or deny the “everything but marriage” domestic partnership law, even though it was well known by him that homosexual activists wanted to information to contact people opposed to their agenda and have “uncomfortable conversations” with them.

Happy 100th Birthday To The Boy Scouts of America

by lewwaters

From Rees Lloyd,

“To all the Boy Scouts of America who for a century have pledged to honor and serve “God and Country,” and to all the adults who have dedicated untold millions of hours aiding those boys to become patriotic American men of honor, thank you for all your service to America, often in the face of fierce and malign adversity, and may you have a “Happy 100th Birthday (Feb. 8, 1910-2010)!”

May the patriotic service to America of your Boy Scouts of America continue for centuries to come, and may all who love America and the values of the Founding Fathers, which you transmit from generation to generation, honor Boy Scouts for that service, perpetually, in an attitude of gratitude, which you Boy Scouts so richly deserve.”

I join Rees in wishing you all a Happy Birthday in your 100th year.

I was fortunate enough to have been in the Boy Scouts of America for the 50th Birthday in 1960.

What I learned during my time as a Scout has been immeasurable to me as I became an adult and served in the United States Army in Viet Nam.

Going off to a war isn’t what the Boy Scouts are about, though. It is about decent citizenship, protecting the countryside and serving your fellow man. It’s about doing the right thing, honesty and bettering our communities.

Enjoy your days as a Scout and hopefully, you will look back fondly as I do today and reflect on what great times you had and how membership in the Boy Scouts of America helped you to become a man.

When someone sneeringly asks you, “What are you, a Boy Scout?” Look them in the eye and reply proudly, “Yes I Am.”
