Question

How does one proclaim being “Pro-Liberty” while simultaneously engaging in efforts to silence, or calling for “containing” any that disagree or criticize?

Is It Up To the Media to Determine When the Public Has “A Right to Know?”

by lewwaters

typewriter-2For some years now, our media has basked in the glory of how they brought down the corrupt presidency of Richard Nixon back in 1974, causing him to be the only sitting president to resign office, so far.

In the succeeding years they became more and more focused on the conservative right, ignoring what the liberal left was doing and in fact, became little more than mouthpieces for the Democrat Party with their extreme bias against Republicans and anything conservative.

Cries of bias aimed at them were scoffed at and ridiculed, written off as sour grapes. Fox News came along and finally offered a real objective news source and they too have been ridiculed, lambasted and denigrated by the more lamestream media sources that can find no wrongdoing on the part of Democrats, but can blow anything concerning the GOP far out of proportion.

We Need Less Gun Regulation and More Media Control

by lewwaters

There is a terrific disadvantage in not having the abrasive quality of the press applied to you daily. Even though we never like it, and even though we wish they didn’t write it, and even though we disapprove, there isn’t any doubt that we could not do the job at all in a free society without a very, very active press.” John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the United States

The ColumbianOnce was the time that we had great trust in our media to report news fairly and give us relevant information of what is happening within our cities as well as across the nation. The media was tenacious in pursuing Richard Nixon, 37th President of the United States, leading him to become the first ever President to resign the office in 1974.

Perhaps fueled by their success in that endeavor, the media of today bears little resemblance to the media we largely trusted so many years ago. The media of today seems less inclined towards reporting news fairly, especially in political news and more inclined to push an agenda favored by the leftwing politicians.

Those of us old enough to remember can recall how throughout the 1980’s the media ridiculed Ronald Reagan with Sam Donaldson coming on after televised speeches to inform of us what he “really said or meant.” George H.W. Bush was portrayed as a buffoon. And of course, the relentless assaults on George W. Bush through the 2000’s even to the point in 2004 of a fabricated memo surfacing and reported as “fake but accurate.”

Mayor Leavitt gets Testy

by lewwaters

My opposition to C-Trans’ Proposition 1 is well known in town to any who read the Columbian or this blog. I have never hidden the fact from anyone. I frequently express that opposition in comments at the Columbian and elsewhere.

But, I was surprised to see the following reply left today on a comment I made weeks ago from Vancouver’s Mayor, Tim Leavitt.

One of the reasons I fought for this country in an armed conflict was so that we little people retained the right to speak out on what we see as wrong. Whether I agree with others or not, I do not try to silence them, as is seen in several comments on this blog.

But, that’s the best argument the Mayor can muster to promote a measure, telling a citizen “blah, blah, blah” and to “give it a rest?”

John Kerry: “Media Has Responsibility to Not Give Equal Time to the Tea Party”

by lewwaters

Straight from the mouth of one those who have gotten us mired in this problem

The Wall Street Journal’s James Taranto says it best,

It’s rather galling for somebody who has never apologized for kicking off his career with such extravagant slanders to be lecturing anybody about ‘who’s real, who isn’t, who’s serious, who isn’t’.”

In case any have forgotten Kerry’s infamous lies,

They had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, tape wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the country side of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country.

Thank you Swift Boat Veterans for Truth for exposing this guy in 2004 and keeping him from moving into the Oval Office.

Massachusetts, wake up!
