Watergate, Journalism and then there is the Columbian

by lewwaters

Boris ColumbianYou might say 1974 was a watermark for the media, Journalism in particular. The diligent investigative journalism of the Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein resulted in the only resignation of a sitting U.S. President as Richard Nixon was forced to resign over the scandal.

I missed much of it as I was stationed overseas in Germany during that time, after completing my tour in Vietnam. But we heard of the relentless pursuit of information on the cover-up and illegal actions of President Nixon. It was clearly a fine example of how dogged determination of scandal by the media could change the course of a country.

With that in mind, I find it peculiar to see Columbian editor Lou Brancaccio leaning on the investigative journalism of Woodward and Bernstein in his Saturday, April 27, 2013 editorial, Of Watergate, awards & stress. I find it so peculiar because the Columbian is anything but serious investigative journalism.

UPDATE: Fraud, Corruption and Cronyism, Hallmarks of the CRC

by lewwaters

CRCOnce was the time corrupt officials at least tried to hide the corruption, graft, cronyism and conflicts of interests. Not any more, though. It is almost worn as a badge of conquering, blatantly engaging in it at all levels as if in open defiance of taxpayers.

Nowhere is this seen clearer than when looking at WSDOT, C-TRAN and the CRC. From efforts to bypass voters to impose tax and fee increases on us after we defeat them at the ballot box to silencing or ignoring citizens input they ask for, the air of corruption is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

Elected officials show nothing but total disregard for taxpayers still struggling to recover from 4 straight years of double digit unemployment with Clark County poised to easily reenter double digit numbers.

Veterans Obama Met With in Portland, Or. Admit It Was a Set-up

by lewwaters

As I stated in my post, Obama Stages an ‘Unscheduled’ Visit With 3 Veterans in Portland, the “unscheduled,” coincidental meet between Barack Obama and 3 area Veterans was indeed “scheduled.”

All three have now admitted to the Oregonian newspaper that “On Tuesday morning, all three met with a staffer and were driven to the restaurant and arrived shortly before Obama. The three said the restaurant workers and other patrons received notice only a few minutes before the president arrived.”

Also admitted, “All have connections to the Obama reelection campaign and were presumably chosen for good political reasons.”

There is no problem with Obama meeting one on one with any Veteran, but trying to portray it as a circumstantial meeting, just something that happened because Obama is a “regular” guy who mingles with the common folk when it was actually a pre-arranged meeting is deceitful.

What a guy that Barack Obama is, we would be led to believe. Taking time out of his busy golfing schedule to campaign for Millions of dollars in donations across the country and when visiting Portland, Oregon yesterday, July 24, 2012, just happened to stop at a little out of the way Breakfast Restaurant for a quick bite while on his way to lunch and just happened to run into and sit down with 3 Veterans who also just happened to be in the restaurant for the very first time, it turns out.

All just by coincidence, we are supposed to believe.

Ignore that wherever a President intends to visit, it inspected days in advance by agents of the Secret Service who also sweep the place moments before they enter and hold everybody there once he arrives until he leaves.

No, just ignore all of the Standard Operating Procedures to believe that Obama, trying desperately to appear like just a regular guy, as his poll numbers amongst Veterans continues sliding, just happened to stumble into such a prime setting to counter challenger Mitt Romney’s speaking before the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Reno, Nevada.

Television, radio and print media were all a gushing over Obama’s happenchance meeting Tuesday with the 3 Vets he coincidentally ran into at Portland’s Gateway Breakfast House on Halsey.

But, a closer look shows it probably was not so coincidental after all.
