Are Marc Boldt and C3G2 in For a Rude Awakening?

by lewwaters

Crying BabyWe are poised to embark on the next chapter of Clark County as the dust from the last election has settled and we move to a 5 person County Council and away from the long held 3 person County Commission.

As we know, the County Commission style of governance has be replaced after decades of functioning for the left because voters moved it right in 2012, shortly after seeing one Commissioner, Steve Stuart, throw a hissy fit and stomp off rather than accept he no longer called all of the shots.

From day one of the new Commission in 2012, the Lazy C, laughingly referred to as a “newspaper” locally, set their sights on ripping control away from the right and replacing power to the left.

How do y’all like your charter now?

by lewwaters

Brancaccio Charter Punishment

I tried to warn you this charter was folly last year, but you didn’t listen. You just had to have it in your effort to undo the 2012 election, instead of just waiting to next year and mounting a formidable campaign to vote those you dislike out.

Now, thanks to the charter, you face the likelihood of one of those you hate the most and wrote the charter in hopes of neutering, having more power than ever over the next four years.

Lefty Lou’s Mental Disorder and Obsession

by lewwaters

Tits on a bullThis blog has repeatedly indicated how the editor of the local Daily Newsletter for the Democrat Party, the Columbian better known as the Lazy C, appears to be mentally challenged with some sort of disorder causing him to pay undo attention to only a few elected officials in the weekly Press Talk editorials.

Wondering whether or not I might be a little off in my estimation, I went back and looked through the archived editorials. Below are listed, by title, of a list of weekly editorials penned by Lefty that are either about or make a derogatory mention of one of the so-called “M&M Boys” or State Senator Don Benton (R 17).

I’ll leave it to readers to determine if Lefty has gone overboard in his denigrations since January 2012 when the County Commission majority changed to a more conservative majority.

Home Rule Charter Debate

by lewwaters

Last evening was the first debate on the Clark County Home Rule Charter, held at the Battle Ground Community Center and sponsored by Clark County Citizens United and the Clark County Farm Forestry Association. As would be expected, in spite of efforts for a calm, civil exchange, it did get a little heated.

I applaud both Clark County Citizens United and the Clark County Farm Forestry Association for hosting and for their efforts to hold a civil discussion.

You may view the full unedited video of the event at Home Rule Charter Debate

If you have had trouble viewing it on Google Drive, Reality Clark County blog has posted it to You Tube with my permission.

Feel free to link to or share as you please, regardless of your view on the Charter.

Of note, all three County Commissioners, Tom Mielke, David Madore and Ed Barnes attended as spectators.

Motive Matters

by lewwaters

“Proposed changes in county charter could be awful.” Clark County Democrat Party, May 2011

“exploring the idea of a home rule charter would be a wild goose chase, seeking to solve problems that are nonexistent.” Columbian newspaper editorial, June 3, 2013

As seen above, Democrats especially and even the Lazy C have both adamantly opposed any change to how county government functions over the years. Both led campaigns that saw efforts rejected by voters in 1982, 1997, and 2002.

Another effort received little support in 2011, leading the Lazy C to proclaim in a Cheers & Jeers column,

Cheers: To county commissioners for putting an end to the home rule charter process this year. Inspecting methods of government is always a good idea, but there was no demonstrated need to elect a slate of freeholders to, in essence, draft a county charter that would replace the current system.”

Freeholder Candidates 2013

by lewwaters

LEGEND: Names lined through I do not recommend for a variety of reasons, no info, known

Democrat, CRC supporter or what have you

Names bolded, colored and underlined are my preference to vote for

Names with (?) after are those I find no negative info on.

The following is just my perception and I encourage you to study candidates in your district for yourselves and choose who you feel is best suited.

In some races you will note I chose two preferred. That is because I feel either would serve well, take your pick.
