Yes, Truth and Integrity Matter

by lewwaters

Since she first announced vying for Southwest Washington’s 3rd Congressional District seat occupied currently by Herrera Beutler, the Lazy C and even the local Democrat party largely ignored other Democrats running, Democrats that actually have deep, established roots in Southwest Washington in favor of Long, who somehow seems to have had a swift and sudden revelation that she should abandon her husband and daughter to quickly move from Salem, Oregon to Clark County Washington just in the nick of time to qualify for residency status to run.

Just what this swift and sudden revelation was is never really said, other than Trump won in 2016. The only connection we are told she has to Southwest Washington is 22 years employment teaching at the Clark County campus of WSU, but until July 2017 scurrying back home every evening and weekend to Salem, Oregon.

LTE: Support Jaime Herrera Beutler

by lewwaters

Note: Contributed opinions may or may not reflect those of the blog author

Carolyn Long under the campaign slogan “People before Politics” seems determined to present herself as a candidate who promises to work together with the people she seeks to represent in southwest Washington in dealing with the challenges we face concerning tolling, fishing, forests and energy. When it comes to the specifics, however, one is hard pressed to get a clear answer on how she intends to tackle these pressing issues.

Unlike her opponent, Jaime Herrera Beutler, who has opposed the Oregon Toll Bridge initiative since its inception, Long is either unwilling or unable to address what should be done in response to Washington commuters upset by the prospect of needing to pay Oregon for the privilege of living in Washington. Could the detached academic be confident she can ignore the problem and maybe it will go away? Most Washingtonians are not so naively optimistic.

Carolyn Long’s Sleight of Hand

by lewwaters

Once again, Oregon’s Democrat Carolyn Long hoping to replace incumbent Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler as Southwest Washington’s 3rd Congressional District Representative, shows all why she just isn’t the right fit for us in the 3rd.

Now how slick is that? State how much you oppose tolling Southwest Washington commuters, but advocate placing all responsibility for deciding on tolling in the hands of the very unelected Bureaucrats strongly advocating tolling both I-5 and I-205.

No, Carolyn Long is just not the right fit for the 3rd Congressional District in Southwest Washington. She isn’t to be trusted.

Oregon Shouldn’t be Given Washington’s 3rd Congressional Seat

by lewwaters

Carolyn Long

It’s no secret that Oregon, Portland primarily has for many years tried to control Clark County Washington while looking down upon us as “Vantucky” and essentially backwater, inbred interlopers muddying their version of Nirvana with our gasoline powered monster cars.

Okay, maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but yes, we all know Portland looks down on Clark County, never hiding their disdain for us, but has shown in the past how much they would love to tap into our revenues on this side of the Columbia River to fund projects and policies they have overextended themselves on.

Think Millions of dollars in income taxes Clark County residents employed in Portland must pay each year while not being given any degree of voice in Oregon’s political scene or think of the failed Columbia River Crossing and the Millions wasted as they worked diligently to force Clark County to accept and fund their light rail a short distance into the community with the promise of a new bridge to replace the aging Interstate 5 Bridges. Remember “No light rail, no bridge, no kidding” from then Governor Kitzhaber?

Long Campaign Issues False Claim, Lazy C Ignores

by lewwaters

It’s been known for some time now that the Lazy C, the Columbian newspaper so labeled by this blog due to their lack of interest in critically viewing Democrats, is and has been reluctant to shine light on Democrat candidates. They just can’t bring themselves to do it.

In the 125th anniversary of the founding of the newspaper it was freely admitted the paper was founded as “a weekly paper with a Democratic bent designed to counter the local Republican paper of the time.”

And from where I sit, it hasn’t changed, still failing close to half of the region.

Just What Is a “Real Republican?”

by lewwaters

Elephant 3Since the Clark County Republican Party took their suicidal plunge towards irrelevancy this past Saturday, I now see increasing comments regarding “Real Republicans,” indicating Republican candidates and incumbents such as candidate for County Council District 3 John Blom, incumbent 18th Legislative District State Senator Ann Rivers and incumbent 3rd Congressional District Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler are not “Real Republicans.”

Claims are that this declaration is based upon their voting records in the case of Herrera Beutler and Rivers and that Blom’s votes on the Planning Commission do not reflect those preferred by the leaders of the Clark County Republican Party or outgoing County Councilor, David Madore.

In the case of Blom, Madore showed himself to be an extremely poor loser last evening by labeling Blom and several others as “politicians [that] wage war against citizens and against faithful citizen representatives” and “those falsely campaigning as an R.”

Clark County Republican Party Commits Political Suicide

by lewwaters

Dems, Shooting own footUnbelievable, but not surprising to see word leaking out at the Clark County Republican Party voting to oppose Republican candidates in the General Election. Candidates that are being challenged or opposed by Democrats!

These same Republicans voting to oppose Republicans in what I can only see as a continuance of their “purity purge” are the same ones whining constantly about “RINO’s electing Democrats.”

Yet here they come voting to oppose the only Republicans facing off against a Democrat in races.

This was bound to happen as I eluded too years ago when these fringe elements, being described by some as the “Alt-Right” took control of the party to promote their brand of politics.

Primary: Winners and Losers

by lewwaters

I VotedAll ballots have been counted and the election department is reporting a final tally of who remains to move ahead to the general election. Nothing has actually changed from early results other than in the 17th Legislative District Senate race where Lynda Wilson pulled ahead of Tim Probst by a razor thin margin.

That race alone should tell you all how important single votes can be as Lynda finishes a scant 50 votes ahead of Probst.

And if you recall, this same Senate seat was won by Don Benton in 2012 by a mere 74 votes over Tim Probst who initially felt he had it in the bag then.

In his usual bluster, Probst felt he had a sure thing this time as well, but once again came in second by a handful of votes. Time will tell if that carries forward in the general or not.

Here Comes ‘Da Taxman’

by lewwaters
Moeller, Spread Watermarked

Jim Moeller

Possibly the worst kept secret in town, long time 49th legislative district representative, Jim Moeller, labeled ‘da taxman’ by this blog due to his love of taxing the middle class (he claims to oppose the B&O tax) has switched his goal from being elected Lt. Governor of our state, as previously announced with his focus now on defeating 3rd Congressional District Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler.

Herrera Beutler, a Republican has held the seat since she was first elected in 2010 after Democrat Brian Baird decided to retire. She has so far held o ff challenges in the primaries from disgruntled Republicans that see her as ‘not pure enough’ and has easily defeated Democrat challengers.

Updated: CCGOP May Censure Rep. Herrera Beutler?

by lewwaters

Monkey, EmbarrassedI’ve been hearing rumors that the Clark County R3publican Party is strongly considering censuring Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler and it has been confirmed. I find it oddly fascinating that one County Party out of the eight comprising the 3rd Congressional District that elected her believes they alone have the power to coerce her into doing their bidding.

Be that as it may, I am not a big fan of Herrera Beutler’s politically, but do acknowledge she was elected by over 60% of the vote in the 3rd District and can’t help but notice none of the elected GOP officials have chimed in publicly, one way or the other. And, as for both parties involved here, I warned y’all long ago.

Nothing has been voted on or approved yet, I hear that won’t happen until 3 months or so from now since the censure was not brought forward in sufficient time for voting at the last central committee meeting.

For Election Results

by lewwaters

I VotedI won’t be posting on results this evening as I will be away from my computer most of the evening. But, links below are being provided where you can read the results of local and state races as they are released. Results should be released after 8 pm.

For local results: http://results.vote.wa.gov/results/current/clark/

State and Congressional results: http://results.vote.wa.gov/results/current/

However the elections go this evening, we better begin remembering we are all Americans and ignore the efforts of bitter division separating us. We will never agree on everything nor should we. But the bitter battles and “my way or the highway” mentality seen far too long needs to come to a screeching halt, if we are to survive.

Good luck to all.

Of Chastising and Picking Fights

by lewwaters

Boxer WomenReading Greg Jayne’s column, Clark County Republicans may be picking wrong fight and the reader comments this morning, once again I am left pondering, why is it that only Republicans are expected to be “moderate?” Where is the call for Democrats to move away from the left towards the center?

Jayne opines about the recent Open Letter from the Clark County Republican Party to 3rd Congressional District Congresswoman, Jaime Herrera Beutler and her caving into vote to approve ending the partial government shutdown and approving what appears to be an open-ended raising of the county’s debt limit, essentially doing away with any limit and abdicating congressional authority over the debt to the office of the president.

Jayne correctly notes the abhorrent amount of our national debt and the very likely collapse should we not rein it in.

Clark County GOP Pens Open Letter to Herrera Beutler (Updated)

by lewwaters

Herrera Smile 2Although I have not been very vocal for some time about it, the election of Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler is one that I have opposed in 2010 and in 2012 stayed out of. I did not hide my views in the 2010 primary that she was not suited for the job.

And she has proven me right more than once.

Of late, after some 15 days of the recent partial shut down of the government, she issued a letter calling on everybody to “face reality” on Obamacare and subsequently surrendered by voting to accept Obama and the Democrats terms, leaving the rest of us standing strong with egg on our faces.

The local Republican Party, under new leaders then when it firmly backed her against strong conservative candidates in 2010, to the point of actively undermining a candidate that previously held positions in Washington D.C. with the Veterans Administration and Department of Homeland Security, has issued an open letter expressing their disappointment with Ms. Herrera Beutler.

Abortion Activists Target Congresswoman Herrera Beutler

by lewwaters

Jaime HerreraBy now we have heard of the sad news from Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler and her husband, Daniel of their unborn child being diagnosed with Potters Syndrome, a condition most often fatal to the newborn child.

Even though I am not Jaime’s biggest fan, she is who we have to deal with politically. But this transcends political views.

With this being her first child I can only imagine her thoughts and deep concerns over the child and uncertainty for the future. She has no good choices to face other than prayers with hopes the treatments listed at the link above are successful, should she carry through with the pregnancy.

I say that because this is one of those rare times I would not object if they arrived at a decision to abort, but that is a very personal matter she, her husband and her doctor would have to make. And as said above, she can also choose to carry full term, placing it in God’s hands. That is her choice.

Clark GOP Puts Elected Officials on Notice – Our Rights Are Not Negotiable

by lewwaters

The Constitution of the United States of America is one of the most remarkable documents ever written. It clearly and in plain language lays out the foundation of our nation, the makeup of our government and establishes the rights of our citizens along with the limitations of government.

It has served our nation well in our short history and guided us into becoming the super power we have been known as, along with being the freest nation on the planet a long as we have abided by it and followed the basic tenets of it.

But government wishes to grow and assume powers our country was founded to get away from, putting the limits on citizens and granting more powers to government denied it when we adhere to our Constitution.

Herrera Beutler Votes For the Destruction of America – UPDATED

by lewwaters

Herrera Obama 4Fresh off being reelected to her first term and before retaking the oath of office, 3rd Congressional District Jaime Herrera Beutler once again reached across the aisle to join with 172 Democrats in the house and 84 other RINO’s to approve the hastily passed “compromise” alleged to avoid the “fiscal Cliff.”

Total count was 172 Democrats and 85 RINO’s voted AYE while 151 Republicans and 16 Democrats wisely votes NOE.

This “compromise” will undoubtedly drive us back into deeper recession by adding $4 Trillion to the deficit over the next 10 years, promises $1 in spending cuts for every $41 in tax increases and extends unemployment entitlements for another year, among other provisions.

Washington State Democrats Stick Their Finger in Jim Moeller’s Eye (UPDATED)

by lewwaters

It looks like Washington State Democrats and their chair, Dwight Pelz have broken ranks with 49th Legislative District incumbent representative, Jim Moeller and finally come out and endorse the only Democrat to challenge Republican, Jaime Herrera Beutler for her 3rd Congressional District seat.

If readers recall, it was Jim Moeller and his inflated ego who led the effort at the Democrats State Convention to deny Haugen the party endorsement, primarily due to his sensible stance on the Columbia River Project, covered at Why Was Jon Haugen ‘Sanctioned’ By the Democrats?

Now that it appears the wheels just may be falling off of the CRC, the Columbian is reporting State Democrats endorse Haugen — finally where they state,

“Democrats didn’t say exactly what made them decide to now endorse Haugen, but Washington State Democrats’ Chairman Dwight Pelz on Monday called Haugen a ‘strong candidate.’ Pelz also said Democrats ‘will spend the next six weeks working (to) elect Democrats and ensure this election keeps our state moving forward’.”

Left out of the article is that it was Jim Moeller leading the charge to deny Haugen the endorsement, presumably due to Moeller being one of the Columbian’s sweethearts who does no wrong.
