Of Chastising and Picking Fights

by lewwaters

Boxer WomenReading Greg Jayne’s column, Clark County Republicans may be picking wrong fight and the reader comments this morning, once again I am left pondering, why is it that only Republicans are expected to be “moderate?” Where is the call for Democrats to move away from the left towards the center?

Jayne opines about the recent Open Letter from the Clark County Republican Party to 3rd Congressional District Congresswoman, Jaime Herrera Beutler and her caving into vote to approve ending the partial government shutdown and approving what appears to be an open-ended raising of the county’s debt limit, essentially doing away with any limit and abdicating congressional authority over the debt to the office of the president.

Jayne correctly notes the abhorrent amount of our national debt and the very likely collapse should we not rein it in.

They Get The Goldmine, We Get The Shaft

by lewwaters

California has long been known as the “Golden State,” noted for the Gold Rush Days of the mid-1800’s with that nickname being officially adopted in 1968. For many years, California was seen as one of the wealthiest states and the destination of many seeking to make their fortune in the world along with several International Businesses that located there.

But California’s leaders just like our leaders in Washington D.C. lost track somewhere along the line as both that state and the nation now each hold the largest debt in our history, California’s exceeding $300 Billion and the United States exceeding $16 Trillion with both still climbing.

We have gone from the wealthiest land to the deepest in debt on the planet, with money owed to just about every other developed nation, large bank, insurance companies and Wall Street as politicians continue selling us down the river towards collapse.

Debt Limit Increase Met Herrera Beutler’s Three Criteria

by lewwaters

Jaime voted for increasing the debt limit, along with several other Democrats and Republicans, against the wishes of the Tea Party. She said it “wasn’t an easy vote for me.”

Okay, but it seems to me she voted for the other proposals Boehner put forth that also raised the debt limit.

Listening to her explanation above, I can understand the first two criteria she outlines. But, for the life of me, I don’t understand how raising the debt puts a down payment on our staggering debt or how overspending is addressed by more increased spending.

I have never been able to balance my checkbook like that.

If the Chinese can get it, why can’t our congress?

“The only way the Americans have come up with to improve economic growth has been to take on new loans to repay the old ones. To eat May’s grain in April, however, will never be a permanent solution to a problem,” the official Xinhua news agency said.

Liberals Should Be Madder At Debt Limit Increases Than Conservatives

by lewwaters

Bottom line, Democrat or Republican, wrong is wrong and continually giving yourself permission to borrow more, never paying the debt down, is wrong. We taxpayers, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Anarchists, Minarchists, even those who don’t give a hoot about politics are on the hook for Trillions of dollars in debt.

It has to stop and yes, it’s not going to be pretty, but we have to begin actually getting out from under this ever increasing debt.

All of the money going out in interest payments should be going into the country’s infrastructure, Veterans Benefits, necessary entitlement programs and yes, we may disagree on just which ones are really necessary. But, paying all of that interest to foreign investors, nations or even domestic investors amounts to nothing more than fattening the coffers of those wealthy who own our debt at the expense of struggling taxpayers.

The left continually condemns the wealthy, calls on them to “share in the sacrifice” and “pay their fair share,” yet the left also approves of giving them even more of our tax dollars in the form of interest payments on the debt by supporting yet another increase to the debt limit?

It doesn’t make sense that the left isn’t demanding even louder than we are for this madness to stop.
