We Are The 53%

by lewwaters

There is more truth in this one sign than in all of the Occupy anything but a bar of soap protest signs combined.

The problems lie at the feet of Politicians. If you need an example of why, read An Open Letter to the Citizens of Oakland from the Oakland Police Officers’ Association

Language Warning!

I may disagree with some of the voices heard in Occupy Vancouver, but I thank organizers for not following suit in how other protests are being conducted.

Occupy Vancouver, Part Deux

by lewwaters

I sort of figured turnout was going to be much smaller when I arrived just before the start time at noon and easily found a parking space close to Esther Short Park.

Speaking with the Columbian’s writer Eric Florip after the rally took to their march, he expressed doubt that even the Columbian would cover this one.

UPDATE: It appears Eric guessed wrong Occupy Vancouver rally collects donations for food bank

Of course the Columbian will paint the movement in every good light they can muster. I do applaud them for conducting a food drive now, but what about all of the other groups around town that do it all years long and never make mention in the Columbian? This is hardly the first or only time food is collected for food banks in town.

Occupy A Paycheck

by lewwaters

We have all been seeing in the news about Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Portland, and Occupy Denver; Occupy everything except a bar of soap for some. The common theme we hear is that there are no jobs, corporate greed is holding back on jobs, the rich are stingy and not “paying their fair share” in taxes. The claim is that 1% holds all of the wealth and that 99% apparently do not, leading one to believe that 99% of the country is broke, out of work and dying of hunger.

According to the National Taxpayers Union, the so called rich already pays a disproportionate amount of income taxes and we also know that 47% of lower wage earners pays no income taxes.

Beyond taxes, as I said above, corporations are accused of being greedy, not wanting to hire people while they hold massive amounts of profits, yadda, yadda, yadda. That too is not quite accurate as there are corporations ready, willing and all too able to hire up to one million workers and it is the government blocking the access to those jobs.

Occupy Vancouver – Veiled Threat Against Condoleezza Rice?

by lewwaters

In what I believe to be “mike check” fashion, Condoleezza Rice, the first Black female Secretary of State is being labeled a “war criminal” by liberals in attendance at the October 15, 2011 “Occupy Vancouver” rally in Vancouver, Washington with an invitation to meet to oppose a keynote speech she is scheduled to give.

But, not one of these people accused Barack Obama of “war crimes” after expanding the war on terror, bombing Libya, deploying Troops into Uganda or keeping Guantanamo open after promises of closing it.

Occupy Portland’s Hit New Song

by lewwaters

While Vancouverites and those who came to attend from other cities held a relatively peaceful march and rally in Esther Short Park Saturday, October 15, the Occupy Portland crowd had an impromptu ‘musical’ band within their midst with their new hit song, “F*CK the USA”

Don’t expect the Columbian, busted on their bias this week by publishing 8 supportive articles on Occupy Vancouver after not granting one single word to the April 17, 2010 Tea Party rally that drew nearly twice the amount of people, to mention this.

Occupy Vancouver – Selected Comments

by lewwaters

A few of the comments from the over 40 people who spoke at the Occupy Vancouver “non-partisan” event today at Esther Short Park, in beautiful downtown Vancouver, Washington.

Nothing new, it’s all been seen before THOSE “SIXTIES” HIPPIES

And, it will end up the same if people don’t stand up.
