When You’re Holding a Hammer (Everything Looks Like a Nail)

Pretty much sums it all up.

Showing once again how it was okay to criticize Bush but not Obama, the co-author of this song claims he was fired from his job as an Assistant High School Football Coach over it.

Clark County Commission, Are You Listening?

by lewwaters

After all of the complaints and efforts being made to vote out Clark County Commissioner Steve Stuart, imagine my shock this morning to go to the Columbian’s website and read Mielke urges higher vehicle fees to fund road projects, seeing that out two Republicans favor adding additional license fees onto our cars and the lone Democrat, Stuart, opposed.

Has our two Republicans not heard the outcry over Olympia’s loading us down with additional fees and taxes?

Commissioner Mielke says, “that increasing licensing fees would take the burden off developers from having to pay as much in traffic-impact fees.”

Commissioner Boldt, the other Republican says he “supports increasing licensing fees on the condition property taxes were lowered,” both desiring to pass road improvements on to drivers and away from property owners.

I guess the thought that property owners are also drivers escapes them?

Stuart, the lone Democrat says, “the county needs to work with existing funds, ranking projects on a need-based scale that favors safety and attracting business development.”

Stuart has taken many disappointing stands on the County Commission, but how did it come down to he is the one now talking sense while the two Republicans are sounding like Olympia Democrat protégés?

Since I will soon be losing a portion of my property under Eminent Domain and even though the county will be paying me a fair price, is it really that necessary to tear up a perfectly good sidewalk so they can rebuild the sidewalk closer to my home to add a bike lane in a road widening project?

I have the same argument here that I have with many of the other “temporary” tax increases Olympia gave us. That being, if they lower property tax, what guarantee do we have they will remain lowered and not raised later, giving us an increased license fee and increased property tax?

Has Mielke and Boldt forgotten we are still seeing double digit unemployment in Clark County? Have they forgotten businesses are hurting and homes are not selling?

We are seeing Light Rail shoved down our throats, an expensive new bridge with tolls proposed that will not alleviate congestion, higher taxes on much of what we consume and a continuing faltering economy.

That last thing I would expect to see from Republicans is talk of increasing any fees, while the Democrat says we must live within our means.

Maybe it’s time we replaced the whole commission with responsible people.
